DUTIES
Working closely with the General Manager, Research the Senior manager will have responsibility for the strategic leadership and oversight of a portfolio of levied industries, which involves engaging and aligning internal and external stakeholders on strategic priorities and measures of success, securing significant cash and in-kind co-investment from industry and government stakeholders, and pursuing new funding opportunities for the organization.
This will include:
• Modelling AgriFutures Australia values and behaviours
• Creating and executing a portfolio strategy that clearly sets out priorities and objectives related to research, communication, and extension across the selected portfolio
• Developing and aligning the team to a Stakeholder Engagement framework to assist with the ongoing strategic management of levied industries programs and associated external relationships
• Supporting the General Manager in ongoing planning and reviews of portfolio
performance, evolving priorities, current and future capacity, resource needs, and team culture
• Taking an entrepreneurial approach to attracting and negotiating co-investment (cash and in-kind) in RDE by primary producers, companies, industry groups, government, and research providers
• Supporting the aligned Program Managers in identifying RDE priorities and developing RDE plans (incorporating research, communication, and extension) in consultation with internal stakeholders and industry stakeholders, including advisory panels and government
• Nurturing, monitoring, and evaluating relationships with external providers, for instance researchers, agencies, and contractors, to ensure consistently high-quality program 2 outputs
• Assisting in the negotiation and management of contracts to secure value for money for levy payers and to promote research outcomes that support improved productivity and profitability of primary producers

• Strong skills in program delivery, planning, monitoring, and evaluation, including budgeting and financial management
• Knowledge of Australian agricultural systems and empathy with the rural environment
• Able to lead the implementation of AgriFutures Australia values and behaviours
• Commitment to achieving positive outcomes for stakeholders and AgriFutures Australia.
EXPERIENCE/QUALIFICATIONS
• Tertiary qualifications in science, business management, or economics or equivalent relevant experience
• 10+ years of experience within program management, including the identification of R&D priorities, developing R&D plans and supporting budgets, and commissioning, contracting, and managing R&D projects
• Demonstrated knowledge of and experience in rural issues and the role of rural research and development with an appreciation of the delivery of R&D outcomes to end users
• Demonstrated experience in leading team(s) to achieve high performance
• Demonstrated experience in monitoring, evaluating, and reporting on program and project performance
• Proven track record of outstanding stakeholder liaison skills, management, and engagement
