About the Opportunity:
City of Darwin Libraries is seeking a STEAM Programs Assistant to support the delivery of engaging programs and activities that spark curiosity and build digital confidence. This role is part of the Library and Family Services team and contributes to a welcoming, inclusive, and tech-savvy environment across our library branches. You'll work closely with the STEAM Programs Officer and the broader Programs and Engagement team to deliver interactive learning experiences, assist customers with technology, and support the day-to-day operations of our libraries.
Key Responsibilities:
Deliver library STEAM programs and services.
Assist with the planning and development of library STEAM programs and services.
Assist with preparing and delivering programs and events for all ages as needed.
Ensure Library customers are provided with a positive, proactive and responsive customer service experience.
Engage, support and connect library users with services, resources and activities.
Assist customers in the library with general enquiries and the use of technology.
Support customers in the use of self-serve technologies, computers, tablets and mobile devices, including social media and eBooks.
Explain procedures and regulations to library customers.
Participate in library activities and attendance at special events.
Maintain order of library collections through shelving, sorting and shelf reading.
Ensure all works performed are in accordance with standard operating procedures.
Handle difficult situations with empathy and care, using your de-escalation skills to maintain a safe and respectful space.
Contribute to a healthy team culture by staying steady under pressure and being mindful of how ongoing difficult situations might affect you and others.
What You'll Bring:
Flexibility to work across multiple library locations, including weekends and some evenings
Strong customer service skills and ability to work as part of a team
Confidence using technology and digital tools (e.g. iPads, smartphones, AR VR, Microsoft Office Suite)
Willingness to learn and apply new STEAM skills in program delivery
Ability to engage with people of all ages in a learning environment
NT Working with Children Clearance (Ochre Card)
Class C Driver's Licence
Desirable;
Previous customer service experience.
Previous experience in a library or similar environment.
Demonstrated interest in science, technology, engineering, arts, or mathematics (e.g. through study, hobbies, volunteering, or work).
Pre-employment Requirement
Fitness for work (medical physical assessment)
