Our Policy Section supports our President and seven statutory Commissioners (Race, Age, Sex, Disability Discrimination; Children; Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Social Justice and Human Rights) to promote awareness and understanding of human rights, conduct research and advocacy, and make recommendations to government to fully implement Australia’s human rights obligations.
The Policy Section also supports the Commission’s work on community and NGO engagement, human rights education, prevention of gendered violence, international engagement (through technical cooperation programs, engagement with other national human rights institutions and United Nations engagement) and partnerships with key government, industry and civil society organisations.
We’re seeking Senior Project Officers and Project Officers who are driven by purpose and committed to advancing human rights across Australia to join our dynamic policy division and lead key strategic initiatives that promote and protect human rights across the nation. You will be part of project teams across Sex Discrimination, Race Discrimination, Disability Discrimination or Children's rights team.

These full-time / part time, non-ongoing positions offers a competitive salary range.
EL1 Senior Project Officer - 115,892 - 129,580 per annum plus 15.4% superannuation.
APS 6 Project Officer - 94,563 - 105,910 per annum plus 15.4% superannuation.

The key duties of the position include:
What You’ll Do:
EL1 Senior Project Officer
Provide best practice and trauma-informed research design and analysis expertise to support the Project Director.
Provide project management expertise to support the delivery of project milestones, including supporting on procurement processes and contract management, in accordance with guidelines as required.
Support strategic alignment between project objectives and Commission priorities.
Provide high level strategic advice to the Director and Commissioner on managing risk and engaging with stakeholders on the project including project partners and sector stakeholders.
Manage team members to effectively perform their roles.
Facilitate trauma-informed engagement and consultation with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders.
APS6 Project Officer
Support the project team to deliver on expected project milestones including delivery of trauma-informed consultation and research.
Provide support on the implementation of best practice and trauma informed research and analysis to effectively deliver project objectives including contribution to high quality research reports and other research outputs.
Work effectively with external service providers and project partners as required to undertake components of the project.
Work collegiately with internal stakeholders across the Commission to achieve the project outcomes and support the goals of the Commission.
Eligibility
What We’re Looking For:
EL1 Senior Project Officer
Demonstrated expertise in and knowledge of human rights principles, frameworks, and their practical application.
Demonstrated understanding of the historical and contemporary issues affecting the lives of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
Demonstrated expertise in managing research design and implementation and project management.
Demonstrated experience providing high quality advice to senior stakeholders.
Demonstrated experience in managing staff.
Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline or equivalent professional experience.
APS6 Project Officer
Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of quantitative data collection and analysis.
Experience working effectively on research and projects highly regarded.
Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline or equivalent professional experience desirable. Demonstrated ability to critically analyse complex issues and undertake high quality research.
Highly developed writing skills, including research reports.
