Yinjaa-Barni Art is seeking a dynamic, dedicated, and highly professional Art Centre Manager to guide our thriving, family-oriented, industry-leading organisation. In this role, you’ll guide the day-to-day operations of the art centre while nurturing artistic excellence, cultural vitality, and strong community connections. Yinjaa-Barni Art has a number of exciting projects ahead, offering a meaningful chance to contribute and make your mark. The role also includes travel within WA and across Australia for art fairs, exhibitions, markets, and professional development opportunities.

About the Role

Reporting to the Yinjaa-Barni Board of Directors, the Art Centre Manager provides leadership across:

Governance, operations, and administration

Financial management and strategic planning

Artistic development and artist support

Marketing, sales, exhibitions, and partnerships

Staff leadership and community engagement

Regular domestic and national travel for art fairs and markets, exhibition events and professional development.

A one-month handover period ensures a smooth transition into the role.

The Manager oversees a team including 2 x part-time Studio Coordinators, 3 x Aboriginal Art Workers, and a group of practising artists.

About You

You are a highly organised, adaptable, culturally respectful leader who thrives in relationship-based work. You communicate clearly, support others, and work collaboratively with Aboriginal artists and community members. You are experienced in mentorship and business development, whilst valuing warmth and genuine connection.

The successful applicant will be physically and mentally adept for the work and will have the ability to collaborate with people of all ages, physical abilities and varying artistic experience.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic and Governance Leadership

Support the ongoing delivery of the organisation’s strategic and business plans.

Support the Board and ensure compliance with governance requirements.

Understand and respect traditional law and cultural leadership.

Artistic and Professional Development

Support artists in their creative and professional growth.

Coordinate exhibitions, projects and on-Country trips.

Ensure high standards for artwork production, documentation, and presentation.

Financial and Business Management

Manage budgets, reporting, acquittals, and funding submissions.

Oversee stock control, retail/wholesale sales, and financial systems.

Explore new revenue streams, licensing opportunities, and projects.

Marketing and Promotion

Lead local and national marketing activities.

Maintain relationships with galleries, institutions, and partners.

Oversee online sales, social media, and communications.

Human Resources and Community Engagement

Lead and mentor staff.

Foster a culturally safe, supportive workplace.

Build strong community, local government, and stakeholder relationships.

Selection Criteria

Essential

Tertiary qualifications and/or extensive experience in arts, business, or community development.

Proven experience in financial administration and organisational management.

Proven experience securing and acquitting funding.

Strong cross-cultural communication, leadership, and staff mentoring abilities.

Competence with IT systems, databases, and professional communication tools.

Current manual driver’s licence and willingness to travel.

Capacity to live and work in a regional location.

Highly Desirable

Knowledge of the Australian and international Aboriginal art markets.

Experience coordinating exhibitions, artistic production, and sales.

Experience driving a 4WD and towing a trailer, or willingness to learn.

Salary and Conditions

Term: Ten-month maternity leave cover, with possibility of extension/job share to be negotiated

Salary: 91,000 p.a

Superannuation: 11.5%

Leave: Six weeks annual leave pro rata, plus additional Time Off In Lieu (TOIL) for events.

Housing: Subsidised and partially furnished accommodation (available from 18th March) in nearby town

Transport: Work vehicle provided

Fuel Subsidy: Provided for daily travel between home and the Art Centre

Travel: Intra-state and national travel required for fairs, markets, exhibitions, and PD

Professional Development: Supported

Handover: One-month supported handover period
