Are you an experienced Shipwright, Boatbuilder, or Composite Tradesperson looking for a role where your skills are respected, your work is valued, and no two jobs are the same?

The Illawarra Shipwright Company is growing, and we’re looking for a capable, hands-on tradesperson to join our team in Unanderra.

This is not an entry-level position. We need someone with solid trade experience who can step into the workshop and confidently contribute to high-quality repair, rebuild, fit-out, and composite work.

The Illawarra Shipwright Company is a professional, workshop-based marine repair and composite business based in Unanderra, Wollongong. We specialise in boat repairs, rebuilds, composite work, refinishing, custom fabrication, and marine fit-outs.

We take pride in doing things properly — with quality workmanship, practical thinking, and attention to detail. We are a fast-growing family-run business with a strong reputation, a well-equipped workshop, and a genuine focus on building a good team culture.

You’ll be working locally in our fully equipped workshop, not bouncing between random sites.

Work with an experienced team! Sam graduated from the United States Landing School of Boatbuilding and Design with a degree in Marine Systems and another degree in Marine Composites and has 20+ years in the industry.

Who We’re Looking For

This role suits someone who is already experienced and confident in marine or closely related trade work.

You must have experience.

We’re looking for someone who has:

Experience as a Shipwright, Boatbuilder, or similar skilled trade

Strong practical ability with fiberglass/composites, repairs, rebuilds, or marine fit-out work

Good eye for detail and finish quality

Pride in workmanship

The ability to work independently and as part of a team

A reliable, positive attitude

A willingness to take ownership and contribute to a high-standard workshop

Trade qualifications are highly regarded, but solid hands-on experience matters most.

Important

This role is best suited to someone who can already perform quality trade work with minimal supervision.

If you are still learning the basics or have very limited hands-on experience, this position will likely not be the right fit.
