The opportunity: If you’re an accountant who wants to understand how a business truly operates, not just process transactions, this is the role for you. This full-time position is based at RFT’s Wodonga office. Being in the office means staying closely connected to operational activity, developing stronger business understanding, and working alongside a team that take pride in their work and bring a professional, collaborative approach to their work whilst maintaining a calm and approachable environment.

In this role, you will gain exposure across core accounting functions while working closely with operational leaders and senior finance team members. As the organisation continues to grow, the scope of the role will evolve, including opportunities to be involved in projects and initiatives that support business improvement.

While the role is positioned at an Accountant level, we recognise experience varies and would welcome conversations with candidates bringing broader capability, with scope and remuneration aligned accordingly.

You’re building your accounting career and are motivated to understand how a business really operates, not just complete the technical requirements of the role. You’re curious about how financial information supports decisions and are always looking for smarter, more efficient ways to approach your work.

You ask thoughtful questions, look at challenges from different angles, and take ownership of outcomes. You enjoy working collaboratively, bring a practical mindset, and are comfortable supporting across different areas when needed.

You are working towards your CA or CPA qualification (or have attained it) and are keen to apply your learning in a commercial, business-focused environment.

What you’ll be doing: This is a broad and hands-on role with exposure to multiple areas of finance. You’ll be involved in both core accounting and cross-functional support that gives you visibility across the business.

Key responsibilities include: Working with operational managers on budgeting, forecasting and gap/opportunity analysis

Month-end reporting and preparation of management packs

Balance sheet reconciliations and variance analysis

Support for BAS, payroll tax, FBT and audit processes

Cash flow and wage cost analysis across multiple cost centres

Actively identifying opportunities to improve processes, systems and the way work gets done

Collaborating with other finance team members and senior leaders to solve complex problems

Supporting operational stakeholders to improve processes and financial outcomes

Using commercial insight to help solve practical business challenges

What RFT is looking for: 3-5 years’ experience in a corporate accounting environment

Working towards or have completed your CA or CPA qualification

Strong Excel capability and confidence working with financial systems

Open, curious and collaborative with strong interpersonal awareness

Willingness to support across all areas of accounts

Steady under pressure, solutions-focused, and a team contributor

Happy to share knowledge, pitch in where needed and contribute to a genuinely supportive team environment

Experience with Truckmate is rare, but if you have it, we’ll be seriously impressed

About Ron Finemore Transport: Ron Finemore Transport is a nationally recognised and regionally based transport and logistics business servicing the Eastern States of Australia. Since 2004, RFT has grown to employ over 900 people and operate a fleet of more than 300 trucks.

The finance team sits at the core of operations. Work is not siloed, meaning you will gain deep exposure to how the business functions and contribute meaningfully across multiple areas.
