Bundoora Secondary College is a year 7-12 College in a quiet residential area of Bundoora, a northern suburb of Melbourne. We are an innovative, caring school and take great pride in knowing every member of our community (both staff and students) as individuals and as learners.

The spacious grounds include a variety of playing fields and as our school farm continues to develop, a range of animal paddocks, productive gardens and indigenous flora plots. Position Overview
The Careers and Pathways Counsellor supports high school students in Victoria as they explore future career, education, and training options. This part-time role (3 days per week) delivers targeted guidance across career planning, pathways, and transition programs, with specific attention to work experience, TAFE/training opportunities, and employment initiatives such as traineeships and School-Based Apprenticeships and Traineeships (SBATs).
Hours and Conditions
Remuneration: Education Support 1-3 and according to the relevant school or sector award and level of experience.
Part Time: 3 days per week (days negotiable).
Reports to: Student Services or equivalent.

Career Counselling and Coordination
Provide individual and group careers counselling for students across Years 7–12.
Assist students in self-assessment of interests, strengths, and values through counselling, interviews, and assessments.
Deliver presentations and workshops covering career planning, subject selection, resume/application writing, interview techniques, and tertiary pathway options.
Coordinate and promote the out-of-school work experience program:
Support students to identify suitable placements.
Advise on employer engagement and preparation.
Guide students through application processes and ensure compliance with relevant Victorian requirements.
Monitor, document, and evaluate student outcomes from work experience placements.
Facilitate student awareness and access to training and employment opportunities, including:
Promotion of TAFE courses and training options aligned to student aspirations and labour market needs.
Identifying and supporting students interested in SBATs and traineeships, explaining requirements, processes, and available supports.
Working with external agencies, employers, and VET/TAFE providers to expand placement and training opportunities.
Coordinate and promote the IN School work/employability program:
Identifying staffing and employment needs in collaboration with school leadership and department heads.
Developing and posting advertisements for vacant positions through appropriate channels.
Leading recruitment processes, including screening applications, organizing and conducting interviews, and ensuring a fair and thorough selection process.
Facilitating onboarding, orientation, and induction programs for new staff employees.
Monitoring student performance and providing them with regular feedback and support.
Preparing and presenting reports to school leadership on staffing activities, recruitment outcomes, and performance assessments.
Showcasing successful staff and student achievements related to employment programs and organizing events or communications to celebrate accomplishments and foster a positive school culture.
Guide students and parents through the Victorian Tertiary Admissions Centre (VTAC) process and timelines.
Maintain current knowledge of Victorian education pathways, VCE/VET requirements, and the regulatory environment.
Provide up-to-date information on scholarships, work experience, vocational programs, and employment preparation pathways.
Build and maintain partnerships with industry, tertiary providers, community groups, and career networks to support pathway opportunities.
Accurately record and maintain counselling sessions, student progress, and destination data in accordance with school and legislative requirements.
Assist in developing and running pathways-related school events (information nights, expos, career evenings) and provide support at parent–teacher interviews where pathways and careers are discussed.
Commit to ongoing professional development to provide current and relevant advice.
Contribute to the school’s wellbeing and support services as a proactive team member.
Community Engagement
Development local partnerships with the Local Learning and Employment Network (LLEN) and other organisations for the delivery of education, training, structured workplace learning and support services.
Support and build and maintain relationships with local businesses, alumni groups, Non-Government Organizations, Not For Profit Organizations and charities to create links with students in classrooms.
Conditions of Employment
This vacancy is to replace an employee on parental absence and is for a period of seven years or until the employee absent on leave returns to duty at the school.

Additional Information
Current Working With Children Check (Victoria) required.
Up-to-date knowledge of Victoria-specific careers, pathways, and programs (e.g., VCE, VET/TAFE, Victorian Careers Curriculum Framework, SBATs) mandatory.
Ongoing participation in professional development expected.

Key Selection Criteria
Relevant tertiary qualifications in career development, counselling, education, or a directly related field.
Accreditation or eligibility for membership with a recognized body (e.g., Career Industry Council of Australia; Australian Centre for Career Education).
Demonstrated experience in careers guidance or pathways counselling for adolescents, preferably in an educational setting.
Knowledge and practical experience with the design and management of work experience programs and processes for Victorian schools.
Experience assisting students in accessing TAFE/training opportunities, traineeships, and SBATs.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills suited to work with students, parents, staff, and external partners.
Strong organisational skills, including the capacity to manage multiple tasks over a part-time schedule.
Knowledge of Victorian curriculum, VCE/VET, and VTAC processes.
