An established consumer lending fintech business is seeking a detail-oriented and commercially minded Credit Assessment Officer to join their Credit Operations team.
In this role, you will assess unsecured consumer loan applications originated through retail partner network. You will play a critical role in ensuring high-quality credit decisions by verifying applicant information, assessing risk, and applying sound judgement in line with regulatory obligations and internal credit policies.
You'll work cross-functionally with customer service, merchant partners, and internal teams to support fast, timely, accurate, and compliant credit decisions at scale.
Key Responsibilities
· Assess and make credit decisions on unsecured personal loan applications in accordance with internal policies and NCCP requirements
· Review supporting documentation including income, identification, bank statements, and credit reports
· Evaluate creditworthiness using bank transaction data and comprehensive credit reporting (CCR) insights
· Liaise with applicants and retail partners to obtain additional information and resolve application queries
· Conduct fraud and AML/CTF checks as part of the assessment process
· Make approval, decline, or conditional lending decisions based on risk analysis and policy guidelines
· Maintain high standards of accuracy, compliance, and turnaround times in a high-volume environment
· Collaborate with Customer and Merchant Services teams, including supporting collections activities where required
· Contribute to continuous improvement of credit decisioning and operational processes
About You
· Proven experience in credit assessment, loan processing, or underwriting within consumer lending (unsecured preferred)
· Strong understanding of Australian consumer credit regulations, including NCCP, RG209, and Privacy requirements
· Experience interpreting bank transaction data and credit bureau (CCR) reports
· Comfortable working with digital loan origination systems and automated decisioning tools
· Strong analytical skills with high attention to detail
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills
· Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced, high-volume environment
· Flexibility to work shifts, including weekends, as required
· Experience in retail finance or merchant-originated lending is highly desirable
· Must possess full Australian work rights without requiring visa sponsorship
