About the Job
There is an exciting opportunity with the Environmental Services team for a Senior Environmental OR Environmental Officer.
The Senior Environmental Officer provides expert and technical advice relating to environmental management to support the Shire’s operations and asset management.The role is responsible for ensuring compliance with environmental legislation and for the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of environmental protection and sustainability practices in line with internal plans. The position supports delivery of environmental programs across parks, reserves, and natural areas, and promotes community awareness initiatives to encourage environmentally responsible practices within both the organisation and the widercommunity.
The Environmental Officer provides expert and technical advice relating to environmental management to support the Shire’s operations and asset management. This role ensures compliance with environmental legislation and oversees the implementation and continuous improvement of environmental practices aligned with the Parks and Environment Business
Plan.The position supports delivery of environmental programs across parks, reserves, and natural areas, and promotes community awareness initiatives to encourage environmentally responsible practices within both the organisation and the wider community.
Responsibilities for Senior Environmental Officer include, but are not limited to: Develop, implement and monitor the environmental management plans, programs and strategies.
Provide specialist technical advice to internal staff, community groups and residents on environmental issues.
Conduct environment field surveys, flora surveys, water quality monitoring and works as required.
Prepare reports for State and Commonwealth Government environmental approvals. Prepare annual environmental reports for relevant environmental licences.
Provide technical input and develop environmental policies, procedures and guidelines for the Shire. Deliver environmental programs relating to the Shire’s parks, reserves and natural areas.
Attend meetings on behalf on the Shire with community groups, government instrumentalities and other departments regarding environmental issues.
Prepare other written reports including reports for Council, committees, project briefs and funding applications. Coordination of field personnel and contractors to ensure works are completed to the required standards.
Plans and delivers surveys and monitoring programs for natural areas using a combination of desktop and onground surveys including the use of drones to capture current aerial imagery and multispectral data.
Review and monitor funding opportunities and prepare funding applications for projects. Develop special environmental projects.
Prepare estimates for projects and monitor budget allocations and expenditure to ensure works are undertaken in a cost effective manner.
Recommend items for consideration in budget preparation. Any other dutues as required.

This is a fulltime employment, working 38 hours per week.
About you
In order to succeed and thrive in the Senior Environmental Officer position, you must have:
Tertiary level qualification in Environmental Science, Environmental Management, Environmental Engineering or similar with demonstrated professional experience.
Developed knowledge in the principles of environmental protection and reserve management and ability to develop plans and procedures for its implementation, including weed management and revegetaion programs.
Developed knowledge and understanding of local, state and national policies and legislation on environmental protection, relevant legislation and its practical application.
Developed level of research, statistical analysis, negotiation, problem solving, report writing, time management skills and ability to source grant funding for environmental management initiatives.
Developed knowledge and experience with statutory environmental matters and in the preparation, implementation and monitoring of environmental management plans, policies and strategies.
Developed knowledge of local flora and the demonstrated ability to conduct flora surveys.
Developed knowledge of community consultation and engagement practices.
Developed computer skills and demonstrated experience in using GIS software.
Willingness and ability to conduct fieldwork and lead teams for field work including water sampling, flora surveys, revegetation and other reserve management work programs.
A current ‘C’ class driver’s license.
In order to succeed and thrive in the Environmental Officer position, you must have:

Sound knowledge in the principles of environmental protection and reserve management and ability to develop plans and procedures for implementation.
Sound knowledge and understanding of local, state and national policies and legislation around environmental protection and ecological sustainability, relevant legislation and its practical application.
Sound research and report writing skills and ability to prepare grant funding applications for environmental projects.
Demonstrated communication skills and an ability to communicate technical knowledge to diverse audiences.
Developed time management and problem solving skills.
Developed computer skills including GIS software.
Knowledge of terrestrial flora survey techniques.
Willingness and a demonstrated ability to undertake field work including flora surveys, groundwater sampling and revegetation works.
A current ‘C’ class driver’s license.
Benefits
Salary: 76,351 to 87,885 per annum
Permanent staff are entitled to:
5 weeks annual leave per year
The option of one Rostered Day Off (RDO) every 4 weeks in exchange for working 40 hours per week.
