I'm Bob. I own Bob's Bikes in Albany, and the workshop's grown to the point where it needs a second experienced set of hands on the bench.
I'm not looking for an offsider to pass tools — I want a Bicycle Mechanic who can take ownership of their own work, talk to customers without me needing to check in, and do the job right the first time. We'll be working side by side every day, so the person matters as much as the CV.
You need to be a rider — ideally MTB or BMX, because that's our thing. Albany has great trails and a solid riding community.
What the job is
This is a full workshop role. You'll be across everything that comes through the door:
Workshop and Mechanical
General servicing — hubs, headsets, bottom bracket rebuilds, drivetrain tuning and replacements
Suspension pivot bearing replacement
Suspension servicing — fork and shock
Wheel building and repairs
Hydraulic brake servicing
Tubeless setups and repairs
Diagnostics across all types of bikes
E-bike servicing, diagnostics and firmware updating
Ride wrap frame protection installations
Bicycle assembly
Customer-Facing
Quoting and costing jobs before work starts
Keeping customers informed throughout the job
Parts and accessory recommendations
Service schedule advice — helping customers look after their bikes properly
Some day-to-day customer service — but this is fundamentally a workshop role
Running the Workshop
Sourcing parts for repair jobs
Keeping accurate job records
Parts inventory management
Managing bookings and your own time
Working independently and as part of a small team
Training junior staff when needed
What I need from you
To be straight with you — this isn't a role for someone still finding their feet. I need someone I can trust on the tools from day one.
Solid, proven experience across everything listed above
Confident working across different brands, groupsets and bike types
Good with customers — honest, helpful and easy to talk to
On top of the admin side — records, parts, bookings
Self-motivated. You know what needs doing and you get it done
Easy to work with. We're side by side all day, every day
You ride MTB or BMX — that matters to us
What You Get
70,000 per annum, plus 12% super
Tuesday to Saturday roster — Mondays and Sundays off every week
Staff pricing on parts and gear
A busy workshop with a good reputation
A straightforward workplace — no politics, just bikes
About Albany
Albany is a genuinely great place to live. World class mountain bike trails, surf, decent fishing and a pace of life that's hard to find in the city. Housing is affordable, the community is tight and you're never far from somewhere worth riding.
If you've been thinking about leaving the city, this is a solid reason to do it.
Probation
There's a 3-month probation period. I think that's fair on both sides — gives us time to make sure it works, and gives you time to decide if Albany and the role are right for you.
How to Apply
Send me an email. Tell me about your experience, where you've worked, what you ride and why this job is for you. Keep it straightforward — I'll read it and get back to you if it looks like a good fit.
I'm reviewing applications as they come in.
NOTE: Never make payment to any employer, person, company, contractor or agency to get hired for a Job.
