About the role

We are seeking a motivated and safety-focused Safety Observer to join our Vegetation Management team. Working alongside tree crews and vegetation management personnel, you will play a critical role in ensuring safe work practices are maintained when operating in proximity to electrical assets and overhead power lines. The successful candidate will be responsible for monitoring work activities, identifying and mitigating hazards, maintaining exclusion zones, and ensuring compliance with relevant safety, environmental, and electrical network requirements.

Key responsibilities

Act as the dedicated Safety Observer for vegetation management crews working near live electrical assets.

Monitor work activities and maintain constant awareness of worker, plant, and equipment positions relative to powerlines.

Identify and communicate potential hazards before they become safety risks.

Ensure minimum approach distances and exclusion zones are maintained at all times.

Stop work immediately when unsafe conditions arise.

Conduct pre-start inspections and participate in daily safety briefings.

Assist crews with implementing Safe Work Method Statements (SWMS) and risk controls.

Report incidents, hazards, and near misses in accordance with company procedures.

Support a strong safety culture through effective communication and leadership in the field.

Ensure compliance with industry regulations, client requirements, and company policies.

About you

Current First Aid Certificate (essential).

Valid Driver's Licence (essential).

EWP Licence (essential).

Strong understanding of workplace health and safety principles (essential).

Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions (essential).

Ability to remain focused and attentive for extended periods (essential).

Strong commitment to safety and teamwork (essential).

Certificate II or III in ESI Vegetation Management (desirable).

Utility Arboriculture qualifications (desirable).

Traffic Management qualifications (desirable).
