REGIONAL ADDICTIONS PREVENTION CONSULTANT

Western Health currently requires a Regional Addictions Prevention Consultant on a permanent basis with Mental Health and Addictions Services in Corner Brook or Stephenville, NL.
HOURS OF WORK: 0830-1630 Hours; Flexible hours are required
DUTIES: As part of the mental health and addictions team, this position will provide advanced leadership in the development, coordination, planning, and implementation of specialized addictions prevention/promotion as identified in the Provincial Policy Framework for Mental Health and Addictions, Primary Health Care Framework, Wellness Strategy, and other related strategies. This position is also responsible for the effective evaluation of prevention initiatives. This position is instrumental in providing regional direction in the initiation of addictions prevention/promotion and in the establishment of community partnerships. The incumbent will assess community needs, research appropriate initiatives, and implement and evaluate programming. This position will link with the primary health care programs and link with other wellness/health promotion consultants.
QUALIFICATIONS: The incumbent must possess advanced clinical knowledge, experience and skills of alcohol/drug and gambling addictions prevention. She/he must demonstrate considerable analytical and facilitation skills together with strong written and oral communication skills. This position demands specific knowledge and experience in the areas of program planning and research methods. Advanced knowledge and experience in community development methods is essential.
The required knowledge and abilities for this position would normally have been acquired through progressively responsible work in the areas of addictions treatment, health promotion, as well as experience in the development and delivery of prevention programming.
Graduation with a Master’s Degree in Health Promotion or the Health Sciences supplemented by three to five years’ combination of experience in addictions and health promotion is required for this position. Must be registered with appropriate registration body, if applicable.

Use of private vehicle is a condition of employment. Travel throughout the Western Region will be required.
SALARY SCALE: $63,784.50 to $71,370.00 per Annum
