Empath Interactive, Inc. (“Empath”) was founded in March 2014 with the aim to revolutionize the way in which we engage, communicate & nurture relationships with our children. We are bringing the sensibility & quality of a premium consumer electronics company into the interactive toy space. We find that too often toy companies have focused on superficial novelty based functionality and have lost sight of why children (and people in general) play in the first place. We like to think of ourselves not as a toy company but as an experience company developing physical products aimed at children. These products will leverage technology to create magical experiences that children can share with their friends & family through communication, stories, games & more.
Empath was founded by Patrick Chiang (Jawbone), Sean Parker (Napster/Facebook) & John Lynch (Jawbone/Amazon). We are well funded in our quest and are looking for passionate people who can help us realize our product vision.
ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY
We are looking for someone who is technically proficient and also creative. This engineer will partner with our founders & the rest of our team to take our product vision and contribute to its definition. He or she will take this definition and architect the back-end infrastructure to the delivery of the overall experience. Travel to the Bay Area (California) from Canada to work closely with the team will be required periodically (approx. 20% travel). Finally, they will be an integral part of the DFM process and getting our product out into the world.

DESIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE
 5+ years of proven experience on delivering large scale, database driven web applications
 BS in Computer Science or equivalent
 Successful implementation of Real-Time Web applications interfacing to hardware devices (i.e., Internet of Things device using Web sockets)
 Sound foundation in computer algorithm fundamentals and successful implementation of efficient signal processing/machine learning
 AWS or Azure (Cloud services) experience
 Experience with Web Encryption/Mobile App Security
 Self-Starter, Independent, and able to make strategic decisions by presenting through tradeoff analyses
EXTRA CREDIT
 Front-end development, frameworks, and technologies
 iOS, Android &/or web app development
 Background/Interest in software for Hardware/Embedded Systems
