Job description
A dynamic and outgoing deputy editor is required on our business-to-business publication, based in Sandton, Johannesburg. Strong writing, subbing and proofreading skills are essential, as is the ability to work quickly and efficiently. Most importantly the candidate should have an enquiring mind, a proactive nature and a strong sense of responsibility.
The responsibilities will include:
•Produce publication according to deadlines as set out in the production schedule.
•Attend weekly publication meeting as convened by the publisher.
•Write original and exclusive articles that are relevant and newsworthy for your audience
•Prepare annual plan of industry events that the publication team should attend
•Attend all launches, seminars, and conferences (to be approved by publisher where third party costs are involved), take photographs and write full review.
•Take ownership and manage all functions and training academy owned by the brand according to the approved budget.
•Develop, manage and produce brand extensions and/or features and/or events that are profitable.
•Maintain website and other social networking platforms
•Attend client meetings with sales executives when requested to promote the brand
•To be hands on during the production process
•Assisting in the development of an agreed editorial policy for the magazine and thereafter to implement the editorial policy.
•Preparing an editorial plan and budget based pagination; ensuring costs conform to the budget provisions given by the publisher.
•Preparing a monthly editorial progress report to be sent to the publisher.
•Liaising with advertising, marketing, circulation, production and publicity departments.
Liaising with clients and agencies to help promote the magazine more aggressively.
•Working in close partnership with the publisher to promote and enhance the magazine in every way and make media and public appearances - especially by attending industry functions to promote the title.
•Developing ideas for profitable supplements and special publications.
•Monitoring current events so that changes of mood, needs and tastes may be reflected in the magazine.
•Monitoring the content of competitor magazines.
•Through contact with readers and others, monitor the progress of the magazine, and, when necessary proposing changes in policy.
•To make the magazine the best magazine in its field, with a strong brand image.
•To implement ideas to increase the registered readers and subscribers
Requirements
•Minimum of six years experience in journalism.
•Journalism diploma/degree
•Own transport
•Be available to travel
•Valid ID and South African drivers licence
•Must be bilingual (Afrikaans and English)
