Our client, St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton (SJHH) is a premier academic and research healthcare organization committed to making a difference in people’s lives and creating a lasting future for their community through integrated health services and internationally recognized programs. The newly redeveloped West 5th Campus offers expanded integrated health services and mental health and addiction care, providing specialized tertiary care to those living with mental illness. The Forensic Psychiatry Program works towards restoring and maintaining the mental health and well-being of adult offenders while managing risks as mandated by the Criminal Code of Canada and ordered by the  Ontario Review Board. The program provides assessment, treatment and rehabilitation services and is conducting a significant expansion of inpatient beds at the West 5th Campus.  With the expansion there is the need for 3 new full time Forensic
Psychologists.
Forensic Psychologist
In this dual role, you will work within a multi-disciplinary team to provide forensic psychological services while holding a faculty appointment at McMaster University with associated teaching and research responsibilities. Reporting to the Clinical Director, Forensic Psychiatry you will also: conduct evidence-based assessment and risk assessments for court and the Ontario Review Board; provide treatment and consultation within the current best practices and the mission and values of St. Joseph’s Healthcare for adult offenders living with major psychiatric illnesses; take the lead on education, clinical training and supervision of psychology residents; and, plan and provide teaching and research activities in affiliation with the McMaster University Department of Psychiatry and Behavioural Neurosciences.
Qualifications:
PhD. In Clinical Psychology (or equivalent) from an APA or CPA accredited graduate program;
Current (or eligible for) registration through the College of Psychologists of Ontario with identified competency in forensic psychology;
Minimum of one year post-doctoral clinical experience with teaching and supervisory experience at the undergraduate and graduate level;
Understanding of the Criminal Code of Canada and in the custody and caring of adult offenders living with major psychiatric illness;
Demonstrated familiarity and understanding of forensic specific risk assessment tools (i.e. HARM/AIS);
Demonstrated skills and experience in treatment, assessment and research in relevant areas of practice;
Demonstrated ability to work effectively as a member of a multidisciplinary team, to collaborate with community resources and services, and to advocate for the needs of clients
