Junior Estimator / Junior Cost Engineer, Location: Olifantsfontein, Offer: R 18 000 R 20 000, Availability: Immediate or ASAP, Type: Permanent, Agency:  Placement Dynamics, Qualification, Knowledge and Experience Required: Mathematics and Engineering - knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, geometry, calculus, statistics, and their applications. National Diploma or B. Tech in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering (or similar) is preferential. Knowledge of SolidWorks or other CAD programs. Knowledge of Microsoft Excel at advanced level including extensive knowledge of data analysis and functions so to cost quickly, accurately and effectively.

Minimum 2 years of professional experience is preferential. Administration and management - knowledge of business and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, production methods, and coordination of people and resources. Knowledge of accounting principles, budgetary principles, forecasting, budget and cost analysis

Knowledge of contract administration policies, procedures and concepts including change orders and contract amendments. Knowledge of cost control, estimating and program management. Knowledge of engineering project management; including scheduling and construction management. Experience with working on SAP. Business One is preferential but not a prerequisite. English language - knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar

Customer and personal service - knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer service.  This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction. Production and processing - knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control, costs, and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods. Clerical -knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures and systems such as word processing, managing files and records, designing forms, and other office procedures and terminology

Knowledgeable on the ISO 9001 standard and other Management system standards. (The understanding of quality and standards. Experience in the steel market or automotive estimation an advantage.

Responsibilities: Analyse drawings and other documentation to prepare time, cost, materials, and labour estimates. Assess cost effectiveness of products or assemblies, tracking actual costs relative to quotes submitted as prototypes or developments progress. Consult with clients, vendors, co-workers in other departments to discuss and formulate estimates and resolve issues. Confer with other estimators, engineers and owners on changes and adjustments to cost estimates. Prepare estimates used by management for purposes such as planning, organising, and scheduling work.

Prepare estimates for use in selecting suppliers or outsource suppliers. Review material and labour requirements, to decide whether it is more cost-effective to produce (make) or purchase (buy) components. Prepare and maintain a directory of suppliers and outsource suppliers. Set up cost monitoring and reporting systems and procedures. Establish and maintain tendering process, and conduct negotiations Conduct time studies to develop and establish standard labour rates and related cost data or to effect cost reduction. Draw up bill of materials, work instructions, control plans and procedures for different designs or parts or assemblies;  Carry out time studies as required so to better cost and estimate
