The RSPCA Qld presents an exciting opportunity for an experienced Animal Attendant/Administration Assistant to join their team. You will provide vital help to all creatures great and small by caring for and attending to all animals in the care of RSPCA Qld, as well as providing administrative support within the shelter operations and RSPCA Queensland front offices.                           

This is an exciting and unique role that will rely on your strong customer service skills, as well as your animal husbandry skills, to rotate across numerous functions of the Animal Care Campus.

Reporting to the Animal Care Manager, you will be responsible for: Meeting the general husbandry needs of all animals in care; Processing animal registrations and reclaims of stray animals from the Council; Attending to Council Pound and RSPCA Queensland front counter and telephone enquiries; Assisting in animal health, shelter cleanliness/hygiene; Assisting with handling of incoming stray animals; Assisting in the rehabilitation of animals in line with our behaviour intervention programs; Coordinating and processing animal adoptions; General administration duties; and Maintaining RSPCA Queensland and Council databases.

To be successful in this role, you will possess: A passion for animals and a commitment to achieving the long term goals of the RSPCA Qld; The ability to build outstanding rapport with a variety of clients; Strong verbal and written communication skills; Excellent time management and prioritising skills; Attention to detail, punctuality and reliability; A team player approach to work; A flexible and proactive attitude; Ability to lift 20 kilograms; Strong customer service skills, and the ability to empathise and remain compassionate while under pressure; Relevant experience in animal care and handling is highly desirable; Experience in administration and customer service is highly desirable; Possess an accurate 50+ wpm average typing speed; A basic understanding of Council animal management local laws (or ability to learn); Excellent office/computer skills (Microsoft Office, Email, Internet, ability to quickly learn to use both Council and RSPCA databases).

A Degree or Certificate in Animal Studies or Vet Nursing would be highly regarded, but is not essential Candidates who are looking for a career change into animal welfare are encouraged to apply.

This is a part time position based at the Ipswich Animal Care Centre. Working hours for the successful incumbent will a minimum of 16 hours per week and work is spread across a 7 day roster. Regular weekend work will be required. Remuneration is as per our Certified Agreement, for Animal Care Staff at Level 1, with a starting pay rate of $19.47/hour (junior rates may apply).
