Tenant Support Worker

The Schizophrenia Society of Alberta (SSA) is proud to announce our new housing program, Iris Court. It provides support staff 24 hours per day, 7 days a week for up to 21 tenants. Iris Court; located in the Bonnie Doon area of Edmonton, is currently hiring for full time Tenant Support Workers. Reporting to the Iris Court Housing Manager, the positions will provide one-to-one support to the tenants and will work collaboratively with the Iris Court team and partners.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
 Assist tenants in accessing community resources and professional services
 Observes and reports changes in tenant’s level of functioning (both physical and mental) and level of participation in activities to the Iris Court team.
 Is familiar with the Mental Health Act, The Child Welfare Act, the Health Information Act, FOIPP, and other governing legislation
 Adheres to established protocols for safety, privacy and confidentiality
 Respond to all emergency calls and activate the appropriate emergency response protocols at Iris Court
 Report tenant-related concerns. E.g. client distress, change in behavior
 Establish rapport with clients and build a relationship based on mutual respect and empathy while maintaining clear and professional boundaries
 Document tenant issues/concerns and Perform all daily and weekly duties and project work as related to the operations at Iris Court
 Adhere to safe work practices and procedures implemented by Iris Court.
 Report and help correct unsafe conditions or unsafe actions by other staff members, tenants or visitors.
 Diploma in a related health field and 3 years experience working with individuals with mental illness and addictions.
 Training in Effective De-escalation Techniques or Non-violent Crisis Intervention
 Mental Health First Aid Course and CPR and First Aid
 Criminal records check required.
SSA offers a starting salary at $16.50 per hour and a comprehensive benefit package (after 3 months employment) ands 3 weeks vacation per annum.
