Excavator Operator

PURPOSE
Under the direction of the Equipment Forman, the Excavator Operator operates an excavator on various projects.
SCOPE
The Excavator Operator is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the equipment. He will also ensure that accurate and timely information regarding supplies, tools and time are provided and recorded as required.
RESPONSIBILITIES
The Excavator Operator is required to:
 operate as a team member in a cross cultural work environment.
 follow all required safety procedures.
The Heavy Equipment Operator performs a wide range of duties as follows:
 Operates assigned heavy equipment and performs some repairs and maintenance activities in a safe manner.
 Practices good housekeeping to keep the workplace clean and orderly.
 Provides information to Forman so that the required forms can be generated in timely manner and are accurately recorded.
 Other related duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Skills & Knowledge:
 Familiarity with the safety concerns related to the operation and repair of heavy equipment and vehicles.
 Valid driver’s license.
 Current first aid certificate (standard or emergency).
Education:
 Certification as an Excavator Operator .
Experience:
 Five years experience operating an excavator would be preferred.
 Digging trenches for electrical wires would be an asset.
 Two years experience feeding a jaw crusher would be an asset.
WORKING CONDITIONS
The successful candidate will be expected to work 11-14 hour shifts while on site, on a rotational basis of 6 weeks in and 2 weeks out, with the option of staying longer if preferred. This is seasonal work until the end of October. Operation of heavy equipment during inclement weather requires special attention to safety. Occupational Health and Safety is of major importance and all personnel are required to follow good work practices, completing tasks in a safe and orderly manner. Some heavy lifting may be required.
