Carpenter (Journeyman)
Terms of Employment: Casual, Full Time, Day
Salary: $18.00 to $20.00 Hourly for 40 hours per week
Anticipated Start Date: As soon as possible
Location: Sydney, Nova Scotia (1 vacancy)
Skill Requirements:
Education: Completion of high school, Completion of college/CEGEP/vocational or technical training
Credentials (certificates, licences, memberships, courses, etc.): Carpenter Trade Certification, First Aid Certificate, WHMIS Certificate
Experience: Experience an asset
Major Work Area: Construction, Maintenance/repair, Renovation
Type of Establishment/Work Setting Experience: Commercial, Institutional, Residential, Millwork/pre-fab shopwork, Marine works
Area of Specialization: General carpentry, Finish carpentry, Ship and boat repair
Specific Skills: Determine specifications and calculate requirements, Prepare layouts, Measure, cut, shape, assemble and join mouldings, wood materials, drywall and plastics materials, Fit and install windows, doors, stairs, mouldings and hardware, Build floor beams and subflooring, Build walls and install partitions, Build and install framing for dropped ceilings, counters, indirect lighting, display cases, etc., Build decks and fences, Operate power tools
Additional Skills: Read and interpret blueprints, drawings and specifications, Estimate labour and material costs, Survey building locations and levels
Security and Safety: Criminal record check
Own Tools/Equipment: Steel-toed safety boots
Work Site Environment: At heights
Transportation/Travel Information: Own transportation, Valid driver's licence
Essential Skills: Reading text, Numeracy, Communication, Working with others, Decision making, Job task planning and organizing
