Job Description
Many of the projects included in the SANDAG 2050 Regional Transportation Plan (RTP) will undergo a comprehensive environmental review process to ensure that impacts to the region’s unique and valuable natural resources are avoided, reduced, or mitigated prior to implementation. Environmental reviews also are completed for the agency’s long-range plans, such as San Diego Forward: The Regional Plan, and the San Diego Regional Bicycle Plan as well as non-transportation related regional projects related to beach sand replenishment and habitat restoration.
In addition to coordinating the environmental review process for plans and projects, the Environmental and Public Facilities Planning group is responsible for several important agency programs including the development of a Quality of Life funding strategy to implement key components of The Regional Plan, implementation of the TransNet Environmental Mitigation Program, coordination of regional habitat conservation planning, shoreline preservation planning, and other related activities.
This Environmental Planner position supports the environmental review process for capital improvement projects planned for the region, as well as participates in technical and planning studies that advance the region’s environmental conservation and preservation efforts.
This is a limited term position and is expected to be funded through July 2016. Limited Term Employees are considered to be “at-will” and receive many of the benefits of regular employees.
Qualifications include a bachelor’s degree with major course work in regional/environmental planning, environmental science, geography, public administration, or a related field and one to three years of progressive career development in the field of environmental planning. A Master’s degree is desirable.
