Permanent Health and Safety Officer, City Centre, Durban City, Company Name: Staff Solutions PMP. Opportunity Available!! Our well known client, A Global Logistics company is looking to employ a Health & Safety Officer to join their dynamic team in Durban.

Ensure the Depot workplace is legally compliant with the Health and Safety Act 1993 (Including its regulations) and ensure the company Health and Safety policy objectives are achieved. Ensure that security guards are posted and performing their task as per the guarding contract and security site instructions. Attend and report on weekly/ monthly security meetings with security company, and report on any security guard breaches, non-compliances and on all security related issues and incidents at the depot.

Constantly identify and mitigate potential Health & Safety hazards and potential areas at risk of major incidents/ accidents and ensure legal compliance with the Health & Safety Act

Attend, conduct and chair monthly Health & Safety committee meetings, Conduct monthly Health & Safety audits, and submit monthly Health & Safety and IOD reports and checklist to head office. Ensure proper filing and record keeping all health & safety documentation, reports and forms on site. Managing, investigating and reporting on IOD claims and completing/ submitting IOD forms and documentation to the department of labour.

Provide regular Health & Safety training to employees at the depot and appoint/ train health & safety reps. Conduct daily and regular workplace health & safety inspections and risk assessments on all depot and workshop equipment, tools, machinery, hazardous chemicals, substances, depot workplaces, structures and buildings, with a view ensuring compliance with health & safety legislation and mitigating health and safety hazards and risks

Incidents and accident investigations and reporting on illness, injuries or death at the depot. Arranging all depot staff annual medicals and fire fighting certificate renewals, ensure staff and visitors comply and adhere to PPE signs and procedures.

Job Requirements: The candidate should have a very good communication and verbal/ writing/ computer/ email skills. Be able to submit and provide reports, conduct investigations and possess good administrations skills. Knowledge of Health and Safety Act would be beneficial, candidate will need to be certified and undergo Health & Safety training by an accredited training provider. Matric/ Grade 12. National Diploma/ BTech Degree in Safety – Advantage. 2-3 years of experience within a SHE environment.
