Logistics Controller, Port Elizabeth, Eastern Cape, Company Name: Surgo HR & Training. Established in 1993, our client is a privately owned manufacturing company supplying SANS approved kerbs, concrete paving bricks and slabs as well as retaining wall systems. They also have branches in Gauteng and the North West. They are recruiting for an experienced Logistics Controller to join their growing team based in Gqeberha (formerly known as Port Elizabeth).

Responsibilities: Accurate loading of vehicles with finished product so that the customer receives what he paid for Checking quality of product before loading to ensure that the customer is happy with the product they receive and do not send it back Allocating correct yard space for factory day and night shift to pack products in correct areas to keep the order in the yard. Ensure FIFO by both the company and truck drivers loading, will ensure that only the oldest and strongest stock goes to the customer. Advise trucks and vehicles where to park to ensure that the yard flows.

Requirements and duties: Yard Layout: The Yard Supervisor must have a clear picture and understand the yard layout. The Yard supervisor should train all forklift drivers involved with production on how the yard should be packed, as well as his own forklift drivers. Before the start of any shift the Yard Supervisor will together with the production forklift driver and Production Supervisor go through the yard so that they can reach an agreement on where the stock must be stacked and exactly how it should be done.

Understanding FIFO: As Yard Supervisor, it is important to be familiar with the FIFO concept and how to implement it in the yard. FIFO stands for first in first out, meaning that the oldest products leave the yard before new products can be loaded. The layout of the yard must be done in such a way that this methodology can be accurately implemented.

Receiving Products From Production: It is the responsibility of the Yard Supervisor to have an area identified where the production can place products that has been produced during a shift. The production team will offload products in the yard and fill in a Production Output Buy-off Form (YD-FRM-007). If there are any problems with the stock the Yard Manager must immediately be informed before the stock gets loaded to a customer.

Control of Goods Returning back Into the Yard: The Yard Manager must be notified by the Sales Team immediately if stock is to be returned into the yard from a customer. The stock returning must be strapped and palletised before the yard will receive it back. The stock must be evaluated together with the yard manager to ensure that we receiver it back as either 1st grade stock or as second grade stock.

Loading of Vehicles: The Stock Controller is responsible for all stock been loaded on the vehicles. You are responsible to ensure that the right product and quantities gets loaded according to a picking slip that is received from the sales department.
