What you'll be doing: The Voluntary Assisted Dying (VAD) Coordinator will work collaboratively to provide safe, compassionate, person-centred health care in the NBMLHD VAD Service, working in collaboration with patients, families, carers and multidisciplinary teams. This position will provide leadership, advice and recommendations on all aspects of their clinical practice, and consults on matters relating to the safe and appropriate use of that clinical practice in relation to VAD.

The VAD Coordinator will formulate and implement policy, guide practice development, and engage in education and research activities and at all times will act as a role model for other clinicians in safe and effective practice for voluntary assisted dying.

This position will provide Clinical Care Coordination and will additionally ensure high quality psychosocial and clinical support for patients and their families, who require advice and coordination of VAD Services, ensure high quality clinical support, relevant to scope of practice, for clinicians and other staff in NBMLHD who require advice and assistance regarding VAD and contribute to clinical and operational VAD service development, reporting, monitoring and evaluation.

Employment of a temporary visa holder may only occur if no suitable permanent resident or citizen of Australia has been identified and must not exceed the duration or conditions associated with the current visa.

Selection criteria to be addressed: Nursing: Current registration as a Registered Nurse with AHPRA, with a minimum five years' full time equivalent post registration experience in palliative and or end of life care and post graduate qualifications in palliative care or such other qualifications or experience deemed appropriate. Occupational Therapist level 4: Tertiary qualifications in Occupational Therapy (OT) and current registration to practice as an OT with AHPRA; Social Worker level 4: minimum Bachelor degree with eligibility for membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW); Clinical Psychologist: an accredited Masters or Doctorate in Clinical Psychology with endorsement or working towards endorsement with the Psychology Board of Australia. Senior Psychologist: an approved 4 year program of undergraduate study honours in psychology; or qualification deemed equivalent by the employer, full registration with the Psychology Board of Australia and nine (9) years’ experience.”

Demonstrated experience and extensive specialist knowledge in end of life care with the ability to provide a district-wide patient centred consultancy service and ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary framework with a demonstrated commitment to excellence in clinical practice.

Demonstrated care coordination skills and an ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary framework, with internal and external health professionals. Demonstrated high level communication and interpersonal skills including the ability to engage an audience, consult effectively with others, negotiate and develop collaborative partnerships with a range of stakeholders.

Demonstrated clinical leadership skills with proven ability to implement changes and develop direction in clinical practice by utilising quality improvement and evidence-based research. Demonstrated competency in the use of information and communication technology, including standard office software, analysis of clinical data, clinical documentation and learning and adopting new applications and platforms.

Current Class C NSW driver’s license and willingness to travel across a large geographical area for work purposes.
