Where you'll be working Wollongong Hospital is Illawarra and Shoalhaven’s major referral and teaching hospital and has a bed base of more than 500. The campus, which incorporates the Illawarra Regional Cancer Care Centre, provides a comprehensive range of inpatient, outpatient, and community-based services.

What you'll be doing To provide anesthetic services to patients of the Illawarra Shoalhaven Local Hospital District (ISLHD), while consolidating experience and expertise in anesthetic practice in a complex clinical environment, under the supervision of anesthetic specialists as appointed by the ISLHD and demonstrating growing independence as the year progresses. A range of clinical interests can be accommodated and are encouraged.

The Wollongong Hospital is a large tertiary centre with a complex, high-volume surgical population and a large variety of surgical specialties. Specifically, the hospital runs up to 15 operating theatres daily, with surgeries including advanced ENT, airway, head and neck, neuro, major upper GI, colorectal, urology, orthopaedics and trauma, plastics, obstetrics, and gynecology.

The department offers three general and two specialised (regional anesthesia and simulation/education) provisional fellowship programs. Provisional fellows are also provided high-level teaching and experience in the management of difficult airways, paediatrics, complex emergency surgery, and major hemorrhages (with ROTEM). There are also multiple additional opportunities to take up administrative, quality assurance, sustainability, and teaching roles to further develop the Provisional Fellow breadth of skills as required by ANZCA.

Demonstrated ability to work independently within a supervised, complex clinical environment, utilising excellent clinical skills, judgement and expertise.
