About Us: Old Hidden Vale Nature Refuge is a 12,000-acre property owned by the Turner Family Foundation, located in Grandchester (approx. 1 hour, 15 minutes drive from Brisbane).  It consists of a working cattle farm, an adventure park, and a resort.  The Restoration Team’s underlying mission is to restore the native habitat within certain project areas of the property. Our ecological restoration and coordinated management activities are helping to deliver resilient, self-sustaining ecosystems and essential habitat for native wildlife.

The Role: We are looking for long-term casual Ecological Officers. Full onsite job training will be provided. No previous experience is required.  This position will appeal to those who enjoy hiking and being in the bush. You will be conducting weed management, including spraying targeted weeds such as Lantana, Mysore, Tobacco Tree, and other exotic plants.  This work is mostly carried off-track, in gullies, creeks and paddocks. Potential further training can be provided, including using brush cutters, chainsaws, tree planting and conducting controlled burns during the winter months. 

Hours are generally 8.30am to approximately 3.30pm, Monday to Thursday.  Friday is typically a shorter day, from 8.30am to 1.30pm.  During summer, start times may move to 6.30am.

Work schedules are finalised on the Friday before each week. You will need to notify each week what days you are available to work (between 1 and 4 days a week). This job is based on weather conditions, and we do not work in wet weather or high winds.

Hourly rate is $29.33 plus super.

About You To apply, you must have the following: A genuine interest in helping the environment and willingness to learn to identify necessary plants. Commitment to work and health and safety processes. Be physically fit, with no back or knee problems. Be able to carry 6 kg to 12 kg spray packs and occasionally lift up to 20 kg containers. Be able to commit to at least one day a week (this can vary week to week). Be looking for long-term casual work. Be reliable and punctual. Able to work as a team and follow instructions. Communicate respectfully with other team members. Able to work independently. Enjoy walking and working in a bush setting. Be able to work in the heat of the day.
