Systems Administrator

The Senior Systems Administrator fulfills a core mandate in ensuring the uptime and performance of Absolute’s internal IT systems. In addition, the Senior Systems Administrator works closely with IT Leadership on researching, designing and implementing new systems that support business needs. This role also provides Level2/3 support to junior techs and provides backup Level1 support when needed. This position is located in Vancouver and will report to the Global IT Manager.
Responsibilities
• Play a senior role for Install/Upgrade/Replace of IT hardware including servers, workstations and peripherals
• Provide technical expertise on any IT internal system issues
• Ensure that backup and disaster recovery systems are operational and procedures are followed
• Ensure the team effectively deploys new laptops, desktops, tablets and smart phones
• Provide an extra pair of hands when needed to ensure service levels are maintained
• Assist in the monitoring of systems to ensure uptime and performance
• Lead project related tasks as assigned
• Assist with IT documentation like network diagrams and server installation processes
• Ensure that IT hardware and software inventories are organized and up to date
• Research and recommend new solutions that support operational excellence
Experience and Skills
• 10 or more years’ experience designing, installing and supporting networks based on Windows Server
• 2 or more years’ experience as a Senior Systems Administrator
• Experience working in a complex, dynamic enterprise environment of 500 users or more
• Strong MS Active Directory, MS Exchange and MS SQL administration skills
• Strong TCP/IP, LAN, WAN, VPN, Firewall, Switch and Router skills
• Strong Backup and Recovery experience with tools like NetBackup, Backup Exec, Veeam, DPM and Acronis
• Strong Virtualization Expertise (MS System Center Virtual Machine Manger and/or VMWARE VCenter)
• Extensive experience with SAN Solutions from major vendors like NetApp, EMC, HP and Dell
• Strong Microsoft Exchange, SQL and SharePoint skills
• Strong MS Office skills in particular Outlook, Excel and Word
• Experience working in a helpdesk environment using a ticketing system
• Great documentation and planning skills
• Ability to prioritize effectively and motivate direct reports in order to meet business objectives
• Experience with vendor management and IT procurement
• Experience with managing a fleet of cellular devices, both COPE and BYOD
• Experience with VoIP/UNC solutions from major vendors like Cisco, Avaya, Mitel, Shortel and Microsoft
Education
• Formal IT training with certifications like MCSE or CCNA expected
• University degree in related field like Computer Science or Computer Engineering preferred.

Working Hours
• Normal working hours for this full time position are 40 hours worked per week
• You must be available to work a shift starting as early as 6am or finishing as late as 10pm local time
• Regular working days and shifts are anticipated to be Monday through Friday 8am to 5pm local time
• Absolute Software reserves the right to change your regular working days and shift start time as required by business needs, and your regular working days may include Saturday and/or Sunday
