Head of Specialist Military Equipment (L&P2), SCS1. Employer: Ministry of Defense. Salary: Remunerated. Closing date: 6 Apr 2025. Defense Equipment & Support (DE&S). Location: Bristol-Abbey Wood, hybrid.
The United Kingdom faces an evolving set of threats in an increasingly unpredictable world. These include enduring operations against terrorism and confronting Russian aggression as a founding and full NATO partner. Our armed forces work continually to deter and confront these threats.
Defense Equipment & Support (DE&S) is the Ministry of Defense procurement and support organization responsible for over £10bn annual spend with 11500 staff based on 150 sites worldwide. They ensure that the UK’s armed forces have the equipment and support services they need to perform their duties effectively.
A major transformation is already underway at DE&S so that the UK can stay ahead of global threats. It’s the most significant change program in DE&S in over a decade. Primarily focused on making sure DE&S can improve availability, speed up time-to-market, and execute on considering exports from the get-go. And it’s a key underpin of the Integrated Procurement Model.
This is a key senior leadership role within the CORE team that will help shape the strategies needed to deliver critical capabilities to the UK military. As Head of Specialist Military Equipment (L&P2), you will be leading 400 people and delivering a suite of outputs focused on four key areas: general munitions; specialist ordnance, including EOD and special projects; dismounted capabilities; and soldier systems. Spending £650 million a year (incl. support for Ukraine), you will be an effective and inspiring strategic leader who will drive the culture and behaviors needed to allow your people to thrive and be successful. You will be a natural influencer able to work across complex government and industrial boundaries with a successful track record of delivering large complex projects and service-based outputs. With DE&S and Defense going through a period of significant change, you will be comfortable dealing with uncertainty and ambiguity.
?We value diversity of people and thought and actively encourage applications from a diverse field of candidates to ensure we are accessing the best talent and introducing new ways of thinking and working.
You will find no other role quite like this one. This is a high-profile and rewarding challenge for the individual that wants to make a real difference to defense procurement operational abilities.
This is a reserved post and is only open to sole UK nationals.
Closing date: 6th April 2025
