About the role
We are looking for a highly skilled business manager to oversee all operational functions within a large institute that features complex structures, budgets, and activities. This is a full-time position covering maternity leave, lasting until August 2026.
The ideal candidate will be a strategic thinker capable of effectively liaising between the Curtin Institute for Data Science (CIDS), internal service providers, and external stakeholders to ensure that our objectives are met efficiently and effectively. The individual should possess strong organizational and communication skills, which will enable them to navigate intricate organizational dynamics and foster a collaborative environment.

Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
Oversee the financial management of the CIDS portfolio, including Innovation Central Perth and the hosting agreement with the ARDC.
Manage the daily operations of the institute to ensure effective service delivery and alignment with strategic objectives.
Collaborate with university service groups to develop and implement services and processes, managing resources and budgets in consultation with relevant stakeholders.
Provide leadership and management for professional staff, focusing on recruitment, induction, performance reviews, and ongoing development.
Support the director in strategic planning, manage contractual obligations, and facilitate effective communication within the institute and with external partners.
Act as a liaison between the institute and internal/external stakeholders, ensuring efficient operations and alignment with the institution's strategic research directions.
Who we are looking for - Selection Criteria
Qualifications and Experience:
1. Relevant tertiary qualifications or extensive experience in business management within complex organizations, or a combination of both.
2. Proven leadership and management experience, achieving results through effective resource utilization.
Business Planning and Strategy:
3. Expertise in business planning, supported by thorough research and analysis, with a track record of developing and implementing business improvement strategies.
Team Leadership:
4. Strong skills in team leadership and management, fostering a customer-focused and efficient team culture.
Financial Acumen:
5. Solid understanding of financial and budget management.
Communication and Interpersonal Skills:
6. High-level communication and negotiation abilities, adept at addressing stakeholder concerns.
7. Excellent interpersonal skills to engage, influence, and develop productive relationships with diverse internal and external stakeholders.
Desirable Criteria
Completion of a relevant postgraduate qualification.
Demonstrated knowledge and experience of research environments within the tertiary education sector.
Role Requirements:
As this is a fixed-term contract, you will require current work rights in Australia that match the tenure of this role.

Ability to work outside of normal office hours when required.
