Royal North Shore Hospital's neurology team is looking for a clinical nurse specialist (CNS) to join their multiple sclerosis team. The position is being offered on a temporary, part-time basis.

The Multiple Sclerosis (MS) CNS works in partnership with patients, their families, and carers to support and equip them with the tools needed to live well with their MS. There are a lot of treatments available for people with MS, and part of the role has been educating patients about treatment choices, treatment changes, management of side effects, and risks associated with some of the treatments. The CNS attends the weekly multidisciplinary MS clinic. The position also works closely with the Medical Day Procedure Unit (MDPU) in the Ambulatory Care Center, providing staff education and patient education at the time of their treatments.

What you'll be doing

The purpose of the Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) position is to provide senior nursing clinical leadership in the development of specialist clinical practice and service delivery within a nursing unit, team, or service. The CNS employs advanced clinical skills and exercises extended autonomy of decision-making, working closely with managers and other senior clinicians.

People of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander background are encouraged to apply.

Candidates will need to meet the following criteria:

Current registration as a registered nurse with the Australian Nurse Health Practitioner Regulation Authority (AHPRA) with relevant post-registration qualifications and at least 3 years' experience working in the clinical area of their specified postgraduate qualification or such other qualifications or relevant equivalent experience.

Demonstrated effective interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.

A commitment to excellence in nursing practice and continuing professional development.

Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.

An understanding of the professional, ethical, and legal requirements of the registered nurse.
