Collaborative and supportive team environment

CBD location with flexible working arrangements

The Chamber of Minerals and Energy of WA (CME) is seeking two highly specialized and motivated individuals to join our policy team. Depending on the skills and experience of the successful candidates, these positions may be appointed at either a policy advisor or senior policy advisor level.

These opportunities are within two influential portfolios:

Resource Development and Sustainability, which focuses on key areas such as the environment, land access, heritage, native title, and circular economy.

Climate and Energy portfolio, which focuses on climate change, carbon abatement, climate adaptation, the energy transition, and new technologies.

Our policy teams are responsible for developing evidence-based policy, proactively engaging with members and key stakeholders, and advocating effectively on issues that matter most to the resource sector. The roles require strong research, writing, and stakeholder engagement skills.

This is a unique opportunity to work with some of the most experienced professionals in these fields across industry and to collaborate with other specialized CME portfolios, including Industry Competitiveness and Economics, Health, Safety, and People, and our regional community experts.

What will you be doing?

Support CME’s policy and advocacy strategy for the portfolio by defining priorities, developing positions on issues, identifying advocacy opportunities, and building deep connections with relevant member companies and stakeholders, ensuring a proactive presence of CME across the portfolio areas.

Conduct research and analysis for the portfolio, ensuring evidence-based positions that inform CME’s policy positions and advocacy for matters affecting our members.

Proactively engage members to identify current and emerging risks, challenges, and opportunities, and seek their feedback on policy positions that may impact their operations.

Write high-quality submissions, newsletter articles, briefing notes, agenda papers, and other written documents and reports.

Coordinate committees and working groups within the portfolio, including facilitating member engagement and performing secretariat duties.

Build and maintain strong, long-term relationships with key stakeholders, including industry, government, and peak bodies.

Represent CME at industry events and conferences, promoting the role of CME and the industry to ensure a highly visible presence.

What are we looking for in you?

A relevant tertiary qualification and a minimum of 2 years’ work experience in policy, advocacy, or a related field.

Current operational knowledge of the WA’s resources sector, including hard rock mining, oil and gas, and upstream/downstream processing.

A clear understanding of state and federal policy development and approval processes.

Demonstrated understanding of state and federal legislation relevant to the policy portfolio, such as the Mining Act, Environmental Protection Act, Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act, or the Climate Change Act.

Technical experience aligned to one of the portfolio areas or within another technical area.

Strong stakeholder engagement skills, with experience working with government and industry.

Coordination and facilitation skills, with experience supporting committees, including preparing agendas, taking minutes, and driving committee engagement.

Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.

A valid WA driver’s license and willingness to occasionally travel.

Alignment with CME’s values: accountable, engaged, inclusive, integrity, and respect.
