About the role

Curtin University has a permanent full-time opportunity for a Lecturer/Senior Lecturer (Director of Fieldwork - Speech Pathology) to work closely with the Deputy Head of School, Program Head, course coordinators, and other staff.

The Director of Fieldwork, Speech Pathology, will have responsibility for ensuring high-quality teaching and learning in all aspects of the fieldwork program within the speech pathology discipline. The director reports to the deputy head of school, academic, and is responsible for strategic leadership and quality improvement of fieldwork within the School of Allied Health. In particular, the role is focused on fostering an environment that promotes high-quality fieldwork experiences for students and excellent support to practitioners supervising speech pathology students.

Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

In conjunction with the Deputy Head of School Academic, provide leadership to the teaching and learning component of the fieldwork program within speech pathology;

Coordinate fieldwork placements (metropolitan, rural and international);

Manage the fieldwork team of clinical coordinator, unit coordinators and professional staff, ensuring a fair and reasonable workload balanced with the staff member’s other duties and responsibilities;

Foster positive working relationships and networks with key stakeholders;

Conduct ongoing evaluation of the fieldwork program’s effectiveness and efficiency;

As a result of these evaluations, improve the quality of the overall fieldwork program for students, host agencies and practitioners supervising students in fieldwork sites;

Develop operational goals and strategic actions for the fieldwork program from all stakeholder viewpoints;

Create and update the teaching and learning resources for fieldwork;

Ensure the fieldwork program complies Speech Pathology Australia’s accreditation standards;

Ensure timely management of issues relating to at-risk students;

Ensure all relevant risk management processes are completed.

Undertake other activities that the incumbent might reasonably be expected to do and that are consistent with the accountabilities and responsibilities as listed above.

Selection Criteria

A doctoral qualification in a relevant discipline (or equivalent accreditation and professional standing for a teaching academic role).

A strong understanding of pedagogical theory and contemporary educational practice relevant to the discipline and/or fieldwork education.

Demonstrated effective communication and collegial collaboration with internal and external stakeholders (students, staff, organisations and supervising clinicians)

Demonstrated capacity to plan, implement and evaluate high quality fieldwork

Demonstrated high-level communication and interpersonal and organizational skills with a commitment to the development of a collegial and supportive working environment and the ability to interact with students and staff with cross-cultural sensitivity.

A record of contribution to scholarship in teaching or an established record of research outputs/creative works in high-quality refereed academic journals/outlets consistent with the discipline.

Demonstrated commitment to the application of relevant and applicable policies, procedures, and legislation in the day-to-day performance of the functions of this position.

Demonstrated experience or capacity to undertake unit coordination.

Management and supervisory skills.

Commitment to interprofessional education.

As this is a continuing (permanent) role, you will require permanent work rights in Australia to be considered.

A level of fitness commensurate with the position.

Interstate and/or overseas travel may be required.

Ability to work outside of normal office hours when required.

Please note that each candidate will be assessed based on their skills, qualifications, and experience to determine the salary level.

Please note, as per Curtin's 2022-2025 EBA, a 3.5% salary increase will also take effect on 20 June 2025.
