Patch Personnel has partnered with an internationally supported E&P company to source an operations engineer to join their busy Brisbane-based team. This position represents a career-changing opportunity for a developing engineer to join a skilled team and gain valuable experience in the dynamic and challenging oil and gas sector, supporting career growth and technical development.

The operations engineer reports to the engineering team lead and will provide process engineering support to field operations and capital projects, ensuring the safety, reliability, and performance of oil and gas facilities.

The primary function of this position is to provide process engineering support to field operations and capital projects. This includes process safety assurance, technical support, and involvement in change management activities, ensuring the safety and integrity of the company’s oil and gas assets.

This position will initially commence as a 12-month contract role with the view that the ideal candidate will be extended to contribute further to the team and individual growth.

Key capabilities of the developing operations engineer include, though are not limited to:

Strong knowledge and application of Australian standards relevant to the oil and gas industry.

Proficiency in process engineering, process performance monitoring, and technical input to projects.

Ability to manage small brownfield changes, including design and execution.

Skilled in problem-solving and analytical thinking, with the ability to address technical challenges effectively.

Understanding and application of management of change processes.

Competence in developing and reviewing operational procedures, ensuring compliance with standards.

Ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams, external contractors, and consultants.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, fostering strong stakeholder relationships.

A proactive approach to safety, environmental stewardship, and cultural heritage considerations.

Adaptability and resilience in dynamic environments, with a focus on delivering customer value.

Strong organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and meet deadlines.

About you

It is essential to success in this position to be a degree-qualified chemical, process, or mechanical engineer with a minimum of 3 years of recent experience in a similar position in oil and gas or major hazards facilities.

Familiarity with Australian standards relevant to the oil and gas industry is desirable but not essential.

A curious mind and a desire to grow your technical ability within a stable and skilled team will be ideal characteristics.

You will be developing your ability to communicate across corporate and operations teams, though you have an inquisitive and self-driven approach to managing responsibilities, which will be essential to your success and a key element of the selection process.
