We are on the lookout for experienced Cloud and CaaS Technical Specialists and Senior Technical Specialists who will be responsible for maintaining the performance and availability of the Optus Network, ensuring strong customer experience and service reliability. This includes hands-on operational support as well as technical governance of suppliers across change, incident, and problem management.
The role operates within a 24x7 rotating roster as part of the Tier 2 support team in our Optus Network Operations Centre in Sydney. In addition to resolving complex technical issues, the specialist is expected to deliver high-quality support, mentor junior team members, and collaborate with managed service partners, equipment vendors, and internal engineering teams to support network strategy, implementation, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Your day in the life of a Technical Specialist at Optus
Support incident and problem management by rapidly resolving complex faults raised by Managed Services and Service Assurance Managers, performing root cause analysis, and coordinating with vendors to implement permanent fixes.
Deliver on network performance and reliability by driving improvements in fault rates and service quality across the transport network to protect revenue and improve customer experience.
Reinforce change and implementation governance through detailed review and approval of planned works, network changes, and new technology deployments to ensure alignment with Optus quality, performance, and supportability standards.
Participate in strategic network evolution by supporting network expansion and upgrades, recommending design improvements, and guiding stakeholders on architecture standards for new technologies and services.
Provide service reporting and technical insights into performance metrics and SLAs, identify trends or issues, and collaborate with various business partners on corrective actions.
Contribute to automation use cases (e.g., incident creation/resolution), refine event correlation and alarm tuning, and input into tools strategy to support operational outcomes.
Underpin security and governance by participating in Change Advisory Boards, manage vendor access certification, and engage in training to support continuous improvement and secure network operations.
Why you are perfect for the job
Relevant professional qualifications and certifications in engineering, telecommunications, or a related science field.
Extensive hands on experience in Virtualised and Cloud native technologies and, Service Operations, including in-depth knowledge of Cloud Infrastructure, CaaS layer, NaaS and supporting container-based and virtualised Applications
Demonstrable ability to manage technology vendors and deliver projects on time and within budget.
Outstanding skills in presenting ideas, influencing stakeholders, and effectively responding to changing circumstances.
Proactive approach to identifying and resolving business and technical issues with clear communication and solution recommendations while taking ownership of outcomes.
Ability to build strong working relationships, support the team as a subject matter expert, and foster a positive team culture that recognizes and rewards contributions.
