Patch Personnel has partnered with a well-respected oil and gas operator to source an instrument and electrical engineer to join their busy team. This position represents a career-changing opportunity to work with a team of industry-recognized leaders in oil and gas. The instrument and electrical engineer reports to the engineering team lead and will provide technical oversight for all instrument, electrical, and control systems within the company assets across their lifecycle. The position ensures operational integrity, compliance, and continuous improvement in all instrument, electrical, and control systems. The I&E engineer also supports asset performance, safety, and environmental stewardship across the businesses’ oil and gas assets.
Key capabilities of the instrument and electrical engineer include but are not limited to
Provide technical oversight and support for instrument, electrical, and control systems in operational and project environments.
Develop, review, and implement engineering designs for brownfield modifications and ensure compliance with relevant standards.
Ensure hazardous area compliance and functional safety management, including critical function testing and documentation.
Support operational teams with technical advice, troubleshooting, and guidance on electrical, instrumentation, and process control issues.
Drive asset reliability and performance improvements, contributing to maintenance strategies and operational excellence.
Collaborate effectively across teams, fostering strong relationships with internal stakeholders, contractors, and field staff.
Ensure compliance with Management of Change processes, taking ownership of plant modifications and ensuring timely close-out of actions.
Demonstrate proactive problem-solving and decision-making, with the ability to manage competing priorities and deliver results.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate technical issues and solutions to a variety of stakeholders.
A commitment to safety and environmental responsibility, promoting a culture of respect and compliance.
About you
It is essential to success in this position to be degree-qualified in instrumentation engineering, electrical engineering, or equivalent, with a minimum of 5 years’ recent experience in a similar role within the oil and gas sector or a similar process/major hazard facility industry.
Familiarity with hazardous area instrumentation requirements is necessary, and PLC and SCADA programming and hardware experience is desirable.
An ability to work across teams—both corporate and operational—and a self-driven approach to managing the area of responsibility will be an essential component to success and a key element of the selection for this position.
This position will initially commence as a 12-month contract position, with the view that the ideal candidate will extend to contribute further to the team and individual growth.
