THE ROLE

We're looking for a hands-on control systems engineer to transform our working prototypes into professional products. You'll work directly with our founders to professionalize our control systems and scale them from benchtop units to production systems.

This is a hands-on, in-person role based in Sydney where you'll have direct access to our prototype equipment and manufacturing processes. You'll be the primary technical contributor responsible for electrical systems, embedded control logic, and industrial automation.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

Build Photobioreactor Control Systems

Multi-loop control systems managing LED lights, water pumps, gas valves, heaters, spectrophotometers, etc.

Feedback control loops with optimization algorithms for automated parameter cycling and evaluation

Integration of kW-scale LED systems with proper drivers and power distribution

Build Manufacturing Equipment Feedback Systems

High-torque motor systems controlling steel roller automation equipment

Stepper and brushless DC motor control with encoder feedback

Air pressure control, temperature sensing, and precision measurement integration

Immediate Responsibilities

Product Refinement: Transform Arduino/ESP32 systems into robust, reliable control platforms

Custom PCBs: Design and manufacture professional control boards for bioreactor and manufacturing systems

System Integration: Implement multi-protocol communications across divers sensor and actuator networks

Control Logic: Program embedded systems in C/C++ and develop Python integration scripts

Production: Design systems for small-batch manufacturing (less than 100 units)

Role Growth Potential (12 months)

Lead a technical team (1-3 engineers)

Architect container-scale systems (50+ integrated units)

Shape the technical direction of our industrial automation platform

YOUR EXPERIENCE

Essential Experience (4-8 years)

Embedded Systems Programming: Proficient in C/C++ for microcontrollers and Python for system integration

Control Systems Implementation: Multi-loop PID control, sensor integration, feedback system design

PCB Design: KiCad or Altium experience with prototype-to-production workflow

Industrial Automation: Basic motor control, PLC experience, industrial sensors and actuators

Hardware Debugging: Oscilloscope, multimeter, methodical troubleshooting approach

Critical Qualities

Self-directed Learning: Comfortable mastering new industrial components and protocols

Systems Thinking: Ability to design integrated solutions across multiple subsystems

Execution-focused: Can deliver working systems in 2-3 month development cycles

Hands-on Mentality: Thrives working directly with hardware, prototyping, and testing
