As part of our ongoing expansion, P and E Total Solutions is seeking experienced and highly skilled heavy-duty fitters to join our team on a permanent basis.
About the Role
The HD Fitter is responsible for the refurbishment of prime movers and trailers, which involves comprehensive maintenance, repairs, and upgrades to ensure safety and operational efficiency. This includes mechanical, electrical, and structural work. This position plays a crucial role in maintaining fleet reliability and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.

Key responsibilities:
Perform routine maintenance: This includes oil changes, filter replacements, and fluid top-ups to ensure the vehicles are running smoothly.
Repair or replace worn-out parts: Address issues with brakes, suspension components, axles, and bearings to maintain vehicle safety and performance.
Address mechanical issues: Tackle problems with engines and transmissions to keep the vehicles operational.
Carry out alignments and suspension adjustments: Maintain proper alignment and suspension to enhance vehicle stability and comfort.
Diagnose and repair electrical faults: Fix issues with lighting, wiring, and control systems to ensure all electrical components are functioning correctly.
Replace or repair electrical components: Work on alternators, batteries, and sensors to keep the electrical systems in top shape.
Repair damage to trailer floors and walls: Address structural issues to maintain the integrity of the trailers.
Conduct thorough inspections. Identify potential hazards and safety violations to ensure compliance with safety standards.
Ensure repairs and maintenance meet industry standards. Follow manufacturer specifications and industry standards to guarantee quality work.
Adhere to safety procedures and regulations. Comply with safety guidelines, such as those outlined in the National Heavy Vehicle Standard (NHV).
Document all work performed. Keep accurate records of repairs, maintenance, and inspections for accountability and future reference.
Conduct road tests: Verify repairs and ensure vehicle safety through thorough road testing.
Qualifications and Experience:
3-5 years’ heavy vehicle mechanical experience.
Relevant trade qualification (Certificate III) in Heavy Automotive Mechanics (or similar heavy vehicle qualification).
In-depth knowledge of mechanical components of both prime movers and various trailer types is crucial
Strong grasp of safety procedures
Valid driving license.
Current HR/HC/MC driving license desirable.
