The Position

Education Services Australia (ESA), seeks a passionate and pragmatic leader for the position of Chief Executive Officer. With a deep appreciation for the education sector, and a proven ability to drive strategic transformation, the incoming CEO will work within an already deeply engaged workplace culture to foster collaboration and inclusivity while inspiring innovation and creativity across the organisation.

Reporting to the Board, the CEO will shape and execute ESA’s strategic direction in alignment with national education priorities. Fostering a culture of respect, inclusion, and high performance, the CEO will drive continuous improvement across programs and services. Key areas of oversight include governance, risk, and compliance, ensuring operational excellence and financial sustainability. With a strong focus on innovation, the appointee will anticipate sector trends and position ESA to meet emerging challenges and opportunities. Building trusted relationships with government, education providers, and stakeholders will be key to enhancing ESA’s reputation and impact. The CEO will lead a high-performing executive team, champion diversity and equity, and cultivate a collaborative workplace that empowers staff to deliver meaningful outcomes for educators and learners across Australia.

The ideal candidate will be a collaborative and adaptable executive who leads with equanimity, empathy, and integrity. With a proven track record of guiding high-performing teams and cultivating a positive organisational culture, the appointee will demonstrate sound commercial acumen and operational oversight, particularly within complex not-for-profit environments. A skilled communicator and advocate, the incoming CEO will engage confidently and respectfully with a broad range of stakeholders, including government and public sector leaders. Their leadership will be grounded in authenticity and a deep commitment to ethical practice, fostering trust and inclusion. The successful candidate will be a systems thinker who is focussed on driving continuous improvement.  Tertiary and postgraduate qualifications in education, public policy, business, or related disciplines are expected. The incoming CEO will be highly motivated by the opportunity to continue to grow the organisation for the future, inspiring excellence and leading with purpose.

Education Services Australia (ESA) a trusted partner in education, creating, shaping and nurturing solutions that support equity and excellence in education. Formed in 2010, ESA is a not-for-profit company owned by all Australian education ministers.

Against the backdrop of an evolving education landscape, ESA strives to make a positive difference in the lives and learning of young Australians through providing products and services that are valued for their practical and effective contribution to the student learning experience.

ESA works in collaboration with all Australian education jurisdictions to advance nationally agreed education initiatives, programs and projects. The organisation operates as part of the national l education architecture alongside, and in collaboration with key stakeholders from across the education landscape.
