About the role
Reporting to the Chief Executive Officer, the Coordinator Governance Legal and Risk is responsible for providing expert legal and governance advice to staff and elected members, ensuring compliance with the Local Government Act 1995 and best practice standards.
Key responsibilities include
Overseeing the implementation of the city's risk management and governance frameworks to ensure effective risk management and transparency.
Managing the engagement of external legal counsel and maintaining a comprehensive register of legal advice.
Providing high-level governance support to staff, elected members, and the Governance Committee, including policy development, compliance oversight, and election administration.
Supervising and guiding the Governance, Legal, and Risk team to achieve performance goals and maintain safe work practices.
About the successful candidate
The ideal candidate will have strong legal and governance expertise, a solid understanding of relevant legislation, and a proven ability to manage risk and compliance effectively. An understanding of the Local Government Act 1995 will be advantageous.
Other essential requirements include
A tertiary qualification in business, management, law, or an equivalent combination of experience and training.
Experience in governance, legal advisory, and risk management.
Strong analytical, research, and communication skills.
Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively under pressure.
A current National Police Certificate.
What we offer
This is a permanent, full-time position offering a cash salary ranging from $115,291 to $133,968 per annum, depending on skills and experience, plus superannuation. Please note that this salary range includes the scheduled annual review effective July 2025.
Part-time work, 30.8 hours per week (Monday–Friday), will also be considered for the right candidate.
5 weeks annual leave.
