Prime opportunity to join our finance team.

Fixed-term, full-time position in a central Hawthorn location (until 30 April 2026).

HEW8 level: $111,758 + 17% Super. Staff benefits include hybrid work.

About the Role

Reporting to the Financial Reporting Manager, this role supports the financial reporting function in managing and ensuring the production of accurate financial statements and management of the underlying financial processes and controls. The senior financial accountant will largely be responsible for the more complex processes and material balances that exist within Swinburne University and its controlled entities.

The incumbent will work closely with other members of the Financial Control Team as well as mentor and coach the junior members of the team. In order to create and foster an agile and truly capable Financial Control Team, this person will work collaboratively and openly with the broader Finance team and drive a culture of strong financial governance. This person will be a self-starter, operate independently, and be able to drive improvements in processes and policies.

This is a contract role until 30 April 2026.

About You

To be suitable for this role, you will have experience in the below key accountabilities:

• Substantive knowledge of local market statutory reporting requirements.

• Experience working in a large and complex organization.

• Demonstrated ability to work with large data sets to perform calculations or analytics.

• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal. Proven ability to establish and maintain multiple relationships to a high level of effectiveness, engendering confidence from a wide range of stakeholders.

• Demonstrated ability to work as a member of and to develop collaborative work teams.

• High levels of personal effectiveness, particularly organizational skills and the ability to work independently and effectively in a fast-paced environment, ensuring deadlines are consistently met without compromising on quality and accuracy.

• Demonstrate a flexible, ‘can do’ attitude and a strong commitment to customer service.

Qualifications

Membership of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia (CA) or Certified Practicing Accountants Australia (CPA).
