About the Role:
Curtin is excited to launch The Living Room! This is a brand-new, peer-led mental health and well-being initiative designed by students for students. As the living room coordinator, you’ll play a central role in shaping this innovative support model from the ground up.
This position is your opportunity to co-create a unique Curtin experience that blends warm, welcoming drop-in support with best-practice mental health and well-being principles. You’ll oversee the day-to-day delivery of the space—an inclusive environment where students can drop in, have a chat, and connect with trained peer support workers about general well-being or mental health concerns.
Reporting to the Head of Counselling, Wellbeing, and AccessAbility, you’ll lead the development and coordination of peer training programs, provide clinical oversight and guidance to peer supporters, and collaborate with a wide range of stakeholders to ensure the service aligns with Curtin’s strategic wellbeing goals.
As a completely new initiative, this is a rare opportunity to make the role your own. You’ll be working with passionate, motivated students in a work-integrated learning setting where they contribute as true partners in support delivery.
If you’re driven to innovate, collaborate, and foster meaningful change in student well-being, we’d love to hear from you.
Your responsibilities will include
Lead the day-to-day operations of The Living Room, ensuring high-quality, student-centered service delivery in collaboration with the Head of Counselling, AccessAbility, and Wellbeing Services.
Design and deliver evidence-based training and onboarding programs for peer support workers while embedding systems for continuous feedback, evaluation, and service improvement.
Provide ongoing clinical supervision, debriefing, and professional support to peer support workers to ensure a safe and supportive environment for both staff and students.
Undertake comprehensive mental health assessments, including risk management and safety planning, and coordinate referrals to appropriate internal and external support services for students facing a wide range of psychosocial challenges, including mental illness, psychological distress, disability, acculturation, and adjustment difficulties.
We are looking for (selection criteria):
A relevant degree in a health discipline (e.g., Mental Health Nursing, Psychology, Social Work, or Occupational Therapy), along with substantial relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and work experience,
A current, unrestricted registration with a relevant professional body such as AHPRA or AASW.
Demonstrated ability to lead and coordinate mental health and well-being service delivery, with clinical expertise in risk assessment, suicide prevention, and trauma-informed approaches.
Demonstrated experience in delivering health promotion and well-being programs, including skills development training, supported by strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to engage diverse audiences and produce high-quality documentation and reports.
Strong organizational and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage competing priorities effectively.
Demonstrated ability to liaise effectively with a range of other professionals and as part of a multi-disciplinary team
Demonstrated understanding of the distinct mental health challenges faced by university students (desired).
Role Requirements:
As this is a fixed-term contract, you will require current work rights in Australia that match the tenure of this role
Successful applicants are subject to a National Police Clearance and background, integrity, and reference checks to Curtin’s satisfaction
This role requires that the successful candidate undergo and maintain an up-to-date Working with Children Check
