This is your chance to be part of a new patient-focused service that prioritizes recovery and the delivery of best-practice, trauma-informed care in a brand new 24-bed building. If you’re passionate about being part of a safe and connected organization and looking for a rewarding career in mental health, apply today!

About the Role

As the Aboriginal Mental Health Cultural Worker, you will play a central role in supporting Aboriginal consumers through culturally responsive, trauma-informed care within CALHN’s new mental health rehabilitation service. Grounded in cultural knowledge and connection to community, this role provides advocacy and guidance that helps ensure care is respectful, empowering, and inclusive of Aboriginal ways of knowing, being, and doing. The unit offers contemporary, evidence-based, and high-quality rehabilitation services to consumers within the CALHN catchment area. You’ll work closely across inpatient, community, and rehabilitation teams, building trust and cultural safety while promoting recovery, social inclusion, and hope for the future. By strengthening partnerships with families, communities, and key Aboriginal organizations, you will help shape a service that truly supports the well-being, self-determination, and resilience of Aboriginal peoples.

For more information about the role and essential educational/vocational qualifications that may be required, please refer to the role description.

About You

You are a culturally grounded, compassionate professional with the skills and commitment to support the social and emotional well-being of Aboriginal consumers. With strong connections to the community and an understanding of the complexities surrounding Aboriginal health, you’re ready to make a meaningful difference within a multidisciplinary mental health rehabilitation setting. To be successful in this role, you will bring cultural insight, adaptability, and a collaborative spirit to support individuals on their recovery journey. You will:

Hold a Certificate IV in Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care (Community) or equivalent

Bring knowledge of Aboriginal cultures, social determinants of health, and culturally safe practices

Demonstrate experience in developing culturally appropriate responses to health, family violence, and well-being needs

Thrive in collaborative environments, using strong communication and problem-solving skills to support team and community goals

If you’re passionate about improving mental health outcomes for Aboriginal consumers through culturally safe, person-centered care—we’d love to hear from you.
