The ?Northern Territory Farmers Association (NT Farmers)?is focused on making Northern Australia a great place to grow food, fibre and forests for the benefit of farmers, families, and communities. It represents and supports its members, and advocates for a diverse and growing range of plant-based industries across all regions of the Northern Territory and Northern Australia. 

As a peak industry body, NT Farmers encourages balanced agricultural development in the Northern Territory and directly assists members and growers with a range of support services.?It is a not-for-profit association which receives project funding from the public and private sector.

We are seeking a Vegetable Industry Development Officer to become a core part of our delivery team, as part of the national VegNet program. The role is a key link between NT vegetable growers and national industry programs.

Our ideal candidate is a self-motivated individual who loves engaging with growers and the broader agricultural community, building strong and trusted relationships with the aim to deliver meaningful outcomes on farm. They value data, excel at report writing and ensure strong governance, but also enjoy getting out from behind the desk and into the field. They are comfortable visiting farms, attending industry events and building genuine relationships with growers, government and industry partners.

The current iteration of the project is set to conclude on the 30th of September 2026 with a high likelihood of extension.

What you'll do

Build strong relationships with NT vegetable growers and industry stakeholders

Deliver on-farm extension and technical support to growers

Coordinate and facilitate workshops, field days and industry events

Support and promote adoption of research, innovation and best practice

Identify local industry issues and communicate these to national VegNET networks

Assist with coordination of field trials, demonstrations and pilot projects

Prepare reports, case studies and industry communications

Work collaboratively with NT Farmers staff and national program partners

What we're looking for in a candidate

Significant experience in agriculture and/or working in a project-based environment with an understanding of governance, budget management and reporting requirements to fulfil funding obligations is highly regarded.

Highly organised, reliable and self-directed.

Comfortable balancing structure and flexibility.

Confident communicating with a wide range of stakeholders.

Able to move between detailed administrative work and on-ground engagement.

A willingness to travel on occasion as required by the business.

Strong written and verbal communication skills.

A current NT Driver's Licence.
