About Proa Energy

Our multidisciplinary team of engineers, meteorologists, physicists, and IT specialists is rapidly expanding. We're currently seeking a Data Analytics Manager to lead our data scientists and analysts in designing and building advanced analytics solutions that drive the optimal operation of renewable energy assets.

About the Role

You will sit on the management team, reporting directly to the Managing Director, and lead the Data Analytics Team in delivering actionable insights and innovative solutions for utility-scale renewable assets. You will coordinate analytics activities across advanced modelling, software development, operations, and client management, ensuring that new products and RandD projects are deployed efficiently and at high quality. This is a unique opportunity to influence the future of energy management by building and deploying advanced analytics systems (forecasting, dispatch, bidding, data cleaning, ML, etc), supporting clients in optimizing their renewable energy assets, and engaging in “blue-sky” thinking about new products and solutions.

Key Responsibilities

Team Leadership to Manage a group of 8to10 data scientists and analysts, fostering a collaborative environment and delivering deep insights from the data generated by utility-scale renewable assets.

Expert Technical Advice to Guide RandD data science projects, brainstorming technical solutions and contributing to new product development.

Operational Analytics to Supervise and optimise the development, deployment, and monitoring processes of systems running operationally 24x7 for critical infrastructure.

Cross-team coordination to Work closely with product development, software, operations, and client management teams to ensure analytics solutions are integrated and deployed on time and to a high standard.

Regulatory Compliance to Understand market operator regulations and integrate them correctly into Proa’s systems.

Advanced modelling support to Develop and oversee advanced models in optimisation, forecasting, dispatch, data quality filtering, etc. for wide a variety of large scale renewable energy projects (solar, wind, batteries, hybrids, etc.).

System Architecture, Operation and Maintenance to Lead the architecture, operation and maintenance of Proa’s analytics systems, ensuring processes remain robust, reliable, and scalable.

Skills and Experience

7+ years of experience leading technical teams.

Strong background in data science, algorithm design, machine learning, and physical science.

Experience working with cloud data environments, preferably Azure.

Proficiency in Python and MATLAB, or similar tools.

Strong problem-solving abilities and experience in software architecture and system design.

Excellent communication skills and the ability to lead, mentor, and motivate a technical team..

Desirable Skills

Knowledge of Australian energy regulations, particularly AEMO and NER rules.

Experience building optimisation systems for BESS and hybrid operations.

Experience running real-time operations for renewable energy plants.

On-site asset management and OandM operations experience at renewable energy plants.

Experience with advanced analytics, predictive modeling, or operational optimization in energy systems.
