Job Summary
Provides confidential academic advising to ensure that students receive the individual attention they need to succeed before entering a program. Develops and monitors academic plans to assist students with timely graduation and supporting the University's retention and graduation initiatives.
Provides academic advising for students in a set of specific majors within the College. Supports students' academic success particularly as measured by retention and on-time graduation.
Manages a caseload of advisees utilizing electronic advising tools and Panther Degree Audit, in order to support students' identification of an appropriate major. Provides guidance to students in the College who are in an inappropriate major and need assistance in finding an appropriate academic program.
Serves as point of contact for the School of Accounting and keeps abreast on program changes and updates, including, communication and procedures. Handles dismissal appeal process. Coordinates with Colleges ACG/BUL course enrollment for non-COB students. Oversees class management: assisting students with ACG/BUL/TAX course cancellation accommodations, along with providing course forecasting. Collaborates on major admission policies, course catalog, entrance exam, and development of student group and departmental queries. Manages advising platforms as they relate to tracking and monitoring of accounting student progress.
Evaluates and processes inbound Accounting change of major requests for active business students pursuing a Bachelor of Business Administration.
Advises students on warning/probation. Processes degree audit exceptions as deemed appropriate for students with transfer credits, credits by exam, or dual enrollment credits; along with reviewing and processing curricular and optional training forms.
Serves as designated approver for Course Auditor review requests. Updates student degree audit as needed.
Leads School of Accounting transfer Advising and Registration sessions for new students, including auditing the participants list, updating PowerPoint presentation as needed, and creating master calendar for accounting advisors.
Interprets state, university and college academic advising policies and procedures. Provides recommendations on procedures for the unit to improve operation for the office site.
Assists with the graduation certification process for students.
Serves as project lead for special projects developed to support student success and promote retention.
Attends functions and serves on university committees as requested.
Refers advisee to campus and community resources such as other college/departments, career planning, counseling center, student government, or outside agencies to provide academic advice and to assist in student success.
Assist in the evaluation and processing of inbound change of major inquiries from active non-business students, host Exploremore information sessions, and assist with annual training for Office of Admissions and Transfer and Transition Services.
Serves as designated approver for excess credit hour petitions. Audits student cohorts for errors in excess credit threshold and submits errors for correction. Also submit requests for excess credit fee reversals.
Adheres to all State of Florida, University, NCAA, Conference USA and college/department regulations, rules, and policies pertaining to the current position. Reports any known NCAA violations or concerns to direct supervisor or to the Athletics Compliance Office. May serve as an advisor for student-athletes. This may include processing mid -term and annual NCAA Progress Toward Degree forms (if questions arise related to Panther Degree Audit).
Minimum Qualifications
Master's degree and two (2) years of managerial experience in academic advising and/or project management; OR Bachelor's degree and four (4) years of managerial experience in academic advising and/or project management.
Desired Qualifications
Four (4) years of experience in academic advising, student development, career development, counseling, or a related area within a higher education setting.
