Job Duties: Abbeville Press, an independent publisher of fine art and illustrated books, is seeking an innovative and dynamic Marketing and Publicity Associate to develop and coordinate marketing, publicity, and social media efforts. The ideal candidate will be creative, resourceful, and comfortable in a fluid role. This is an excellent opportunity to gain experience in all aspects of book marketing and publicity in a friendly but serious environment.

Marketing: Develop multifaceted marketing campaigns across a variety of platforms (traditional print, web outlets, and social media) to generate visibility of the Abbeville brand and drive sales of front- and backlist titles.

• Serve as point of contact for distributor’s sales team and prepare materials for seasonal sales conferences. Handle special sales and marketing projects.

• Coordinate with editorial and art departments on the creation of Fall and Spring print catalogs. Populate information into Edelweiss digital catalog for sales force.

• Maintain title management systems listings (such as ONIX). Develop web site, blog, and social media presence.

• Update HTML-based website and create book-specific landing pages as needed.

• Manage, maintain, and update Abbeville’s social media presence. Oversee Tumblr blog, Twitter, and Face book accounts.

• Plan seasonal advertising commitments, write copy for advertisements, and coordinate advertisement creation with art department.

• Initiate web-based marketing campaigns for selected titles and e-books, including promotion on sites such as Good reads and Net Galley.

• Identify and build strategic partnerships for marketing of specific books and the Abbeville brand.

Publicity: Develop publicity campaigns for 10–15 frontlist titles each season, incorporating traditional and new media.

• Create and execute a publicity plan for all titles, including: press releases, pitching stories, book mailings, and book launch event planning.

• Liaise with authors, art department, and editors, and handle day to day inquiries.

• Prepare descriptive copy for catalogs and fact sheets/sell sheets.

• Maintain the media database, circulate press clippings, and develop new partnerships with organizations and institutions.

• Coordinate seasonal catalog mailing.

• Plan book signings and lectures.

Required Skills/Knowledge: • Possesses the ability to move seamlessly between creative and analytical roles.

• Must be proactive, flexible, and adaptive in a rapidly changing environment.

• Must have excellent time management and organizational skills.

• Ability to prioritize, meet and manage overlapping deadlines, and work independently.

Job Qualifications: • Bachelor's degree, preferably in a relevant subject area.

• 1+ years related work experience in publishing or publicity, or equivalent.

• Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office required. Experience with Adobe InDesign, Photoshop, Cision Media Database, ONIX title management system, and/or HTML is a plus.

• Knowledge of art history is beneficial.

• Willingness to learn new skills and take ownership of projects is essential.

• You should be comfortable in a small-company setting where you may be called upon to perform duties outside of your job description.
