Would you like to educate the children on how to care for the animals? Smithfield Village is a purpose built Long day care centre which offers a variety of services to the children. Smithfield Village offers the Children Barnyard of animals, variety of reptiles, aviary of different species of birds.  We grow all of the fresh produce which is fed to the animals and incorporated in our daily meals. Smithfield has a barnyard of animals includes ducks, chickens, goats, aviary of different species of birds, reptiles. Reptiles we have are Blue tongue Lizard, turtles, children's Python, Shingle back lizard, bearded dragon.

We are looking for a dedicated handler who has had previous experience with handling a variety of animals including experience with reptiles. The position involves keeping all the enclosures clean and correct feeding guides to all the animals. Must hold a drivers license. Ability to work within  supportive team environment. Ability to interact with other team members, children and families. Ability to be follow directions and guided by the management team and owner. Good social and communication  skills.

checking on Animals on weekends if required, on public holidays when centre is closed for a few days. We have the perfect position for you. If you meet the following criteria we invite you to apply to join the best Centre in Cairns.

Roles and Responsibilities: Prepare food and deliver fresh food and water to the animals daily. Order animals food from suppliers. To pick up food and supplies from the local pet Cafe and other pet shops as required. Clean and prepare comfortable and safe sleeping enclosures for the animals. Clear away animal waste, clean, disinfect and maintain animal enclosures, cages and duck pond. Bathe and groom animals and treat them to prevent ticks/lice/worms etc. Maintain animals records. Record daily and weekly cleaning checklists.

Contacting the local vet when the animals need professional medical attention. Develop enrichment  programs for the animals to promote natural behaviours and provide stimulation to the animals. Exercise and provide high level of care for the animals. Handle  the animals daily including the reptiles. Allowing them to have time in the sun. To work towards a professional goal by  planning an animal education program to cater from 12 months to 5 years Implementing age appropriate activities chosen weekly/monthly topic, visiting each room on a daily basis and engaging In animals education, including animals interactions down In the barnyard, and with reptiles and egg collecting from the chickens and ducks.

Qualifications: Applicants must hold a Blue card or willing to obtain one. Current Senior First Aid and CPR Certificate. Certificates in animal handling or equivalent.
