Junior Linux Systems Engineer Position in Cape Town, Salt River, Cape Town. Junior Linux Systems Engineer. SportPesa (PTY) Ltd seeks to recruit a Junior Systems Engineer. Reporting to the Head of IT, the successful candidate will perform the following exciting key responsibilities.
Responsibilities: Reporting to the Head of IT, the Systems Engineer shall be responsible for: Scheduling and Overseeing Preventive Maintenance of the Server/System Infrastructure. Ensure 99.99% availability of the System Infrastructure. Serve as a Level 1 escalation for all System incidents. Serve as part of Resolution team for System Incidents. Ensure System documentation is updated. Manage System Inventory and spares. Manage Configuration of all Systems (backup configuration and application of standardized configuration templates to Systems). The effective provisioning, installation, configuration and maintenance of systems hardware, software and related infrastructure.
Control and verify system backups and file archiving, ensuring all required file systems and data are successfully backed up to appropriate media, media is stored, and recycled. Support knowledge (Create, change, and administer user accounts per request, Hardware & Network Troubleshooting). Investigate and troubleshoot issues. Perform daily system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of all hardware, server resources, systems and key processes, reviewing system and application logs and verifying completion of scheduled jobs such as backups.
Knowledge on Data Centre Technologies. Experience within a helpdesk environment and helpdesk software. e.g. Jira. Undertake other duties not specifically stated which from time to time are necessary without altering the nature or level of responsibility. Form part of a standby roster for Etc.
Required Experience: Virtualisation (KVM/ OpenStack/VMWare): 2 years. Monitoring Systems (Cacti Graphing/SolarWinds): 3 years. Orchestration and Provisioning. (Puppet/Chef/Foreman/Spacewalk/Git/Ansible/RPM Deployment/Docker/Rancher):3 year. Storage Technologies (SAN/ NAS/ iSCSI / Fibre Channel): 2 year. Scripting (E.g. Perl, Bash, Python, etc.): 2 years. Linux Desktop & Server (CentOS/RedHat, Ubuntu, Debian) 3 Years. Relevant Diploma/Certificate will be an advantage. Setup and Management of load balancing solutions (NGINX, F5, Citrix). Strong troubleshooting skills is key Etc.
Qualifications: Degree in Computer Science/Telecommunication or related degree. 4-6 years' experience managing Systems running on Linux and Microsoft. Minimum 2 years hands on systems administration experience. IT project management experience. RHCE or equivalent. Team Player. Highly motivated with demonstrable enthusiasm for role. Telco / Service Provider experience is an added advantage.
