We use an evidence-based practice derived from the latest research in neuroscience, attachment, and trauma. We approach behaviour from a relational lens, seeing connection and belonging as fundamental to a person's wellbeing and sense of safety.

The Role: As a registered NDIS provider, Waves WA provides a range of community-based Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) services to people of all ages and abilities. We are seeking a dedicated PBS practitioner to join our team in the Wickham/Roebourne/Karratha area on a full-time or part-time role. Key Responsibilities:

In this role, you will: work with participants who have specific and unique needs due to the impact of personal and situational factors on their lives, including but not limited to: Contact with other government systems (justice, health, mental health). Limited or no informal supports to assist with planning, plan implementation, and decision-making. Risks to self and others. Difficulty securing service delivery. Multiple family members with disabilities. Stressed care arrangements with risks to sustaining care. Collaborate closely with participants and their support networks to develop individualised Positive Behaviour Support plans and work toward reducing and eliminating restrictive practice. Conduct Functional Behaviour Assessments (FBA) to understand participants' needs and develop effective PBS plans. Support, listen to, and understand participants’ interests, likes, and dislikes to connect on a meaningful level. Provide training and capacity-building to participants and their carers to increase understanding of behaviour and foster positive outcomes.

Use a person-centred, trauma-informed approach to address participants' needs. Advocate for participants, ensuring that the systems around them are supportive and person-centred. Work with other professionals, including support coordinators, allied health professionals, and service providers, to provide holistic support. Create and update behaviour plans in line with NDIS requirements and best practices. Establish a strong knowledge of the NDIS Capability Framework and best practices regarding positive Behaviour support. Develop strong and rewarding relationships with individuals and families, problem-solving alongside our multidisciplinary team through ongoing learning.

Attend team meetings and collaborate with the Managing Director and other practitioners to ensure consistent support. Engage in ongoing professional development, training, and clinical supervision. Maintain a commitment to high standards of service delivery and ethical practice.

About You We are looking for someone who is currently studying or has a bachelor's degree or higher in psychology, Counselling, social work, occupational therapy, or a related field. Has experience working with people living with disabilities to improve their quality of life. Experience supporting CALD. Experience working closely with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities to build positive relationships and outcomes. Is genuinely interested in adding value to a person’s life and helping them to live the life they want. Loves learning and continuing to develop professionally.

Is considerate and approachable and is able to work from a place of empathy. Able to apply for and be considered suitable by the NDIS as a PBS practitioner. Demonstrates experience and a passion for working with children, adolescents, and families. Has knowledge of NDIS processes and experience working within NDIS frameworks. Possesses excellent report-writing skills and has strong organisational and time-management abilities. Has a Working with Children Check and NDIS Worker Screening Check.

Desirable Qualifications: Experience working with a trauma-informed lens and a neurodivergent, affirming approach. Lived experience with disability or neurodivergence. Identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander. Identify as CALD. Evidence of NDIS PBS practitioner suitability, if available. A de-identified example of a Behaviour support plan you have written, if available. NDIS Orientation Module Certificate.
