The Cairns and Hinterland Hospital and Health Service covers a large geographic area with a diverse and growing population. The Health Service provides a wide range of primary care, acute, and specialist services. Our staff are a part of the community we serve, and we strongly believe that health outcomes are enhanced by involving our community in the planning and evaluation of local health services.
We are seeking an enthusiastic rural generalist to join our team in tropical North Queensland. Mareeba Hospital is a 40-bed Level 3 facility servicing the Mareeba District with a large Indigenous population. We provide outreach services to the township of Dimbulah, as well as to the nearby Lotus Glen Correctional Centre. Our caseload includes emergency presentations with trauma and acute illnesses and care of inpatients, including pediatrics and a general practice outpatient clinic. We see approximately 2,000-2,500 people per month through our emergency department and have about 500 admissions. Our GP clinic also sees 500 patients per month.
Mareeba is a one-hour drive from Cairns and is located on the Atherton Tablelands with a population of approximately 10,500 people. The town is 417 meters above sea level on the confluence of the Barron River, Granite Creek, and Emerald Creek. Mareeba has a multicultural heritage, with beautiful fresh produce, scenic mountain bike riding, bird watching, various wineries, and several coffee plantations. It is an easy scenic drive to other equally beautiful towns on the Atherton Tablelands.
